NTL Multi-room query

    Hi,

    Does anyone know about this?

We recently got digital + in the sitting room from NTL but I've a few other points wired up to get analogue around the house for last 15 years.

I was thinking about getting Digital into my room.

Per NTL webpage it's €50 install charge and €8.50 a month after.

    Does anyone know
    1) is there a charge for the box?
    2) is there a minimum contract for this?

If I didn't want it anymore can I just give the box back mid-term and stop paying the €8.50 without a penalty or charge as long as we keep the one in the sitting room?
    Thanks
    Keith

    Hi Keith.

I rang NTL on this point and they say you can cancel the second box if you want to revert to just one room viewing.

The 50 euro fee covers the cost of the second box!

i forgot to ask about a minimum contract, and i dont have another hour free to call them back!!

Hi Keith, I rang them up enquring about a second box the other day. There is no charge for the box per se, as it remains the property of NTL/UPC, the install fee covers installing a new point to take the second box, and the €8.50 is effectively renting it out. I have my main NTL feed split in my attic in a 4-way splitter, one of which goes into my front room where my current digital box is, I get a signal strength of 33-34 which is perfectly fine for watching. I'm thinking about getting it in the kitchen as well (where I have another of my feeds from the attic).

I don't know about the contract as I didn't ask. I have had NTL digital for over two years in one room. I'd say it just falls under the contract of your original box (min 12 months I think).

That sounds like a good idea getting the main split into the attic. Would make life easier to take the feed from there & cheers for the other info. Will consider it if I'm not moving soon.

Afaik, your minimum term contractual obligations to NTL are only for the main box. You can get rid of additional box anytime you want. However, you will be charged a €10 Downgrade fee.
