Toshiba 'Vibration has been detected'

Today is the first day I have ever gotten this message come up on my Toshiba Tecra A8 laptop, saying that a vibration was detected and the hard disk head was temporarily moved to a safe place.

Is there any reason why this is just happening now? I've been using this laptop for a month, and it may be getting a little bit of a bumpy ride in my school bag because I bring it in and out of college every day in there. It has never come up before, but it has come up about 10 or 15 times today. It happens when I move the laptop while it's on. Which is nothing new. And even just moving it a little bit can cause the message to come up.

Anything I can do to stop whatever the problem is?

It happens when you move the laptop, so that sounds like it's doing what it's supposed to. Any chance that perhaps you just had the "Do not display this message" ticked and it recently became unticked? I imagine there's a toshiba control panel or something where you can set the sensitivity of this, that might be worth looking for.

Yeah there is a sensitivity thing that I can change, but I don't think I change it recently. Just thought maybe there might have been something I have done that caused the Hard Disk to become more sensitive or something? hah maybe I did change it recently without realising.

This may not work but try and shut the laptop down each night before you carry it into school "SHUT DOWN", as the hard drive might still be in use while in "Hibernation" or "Sleep" mode.

I am not a fan of netbooks at all, but the one advantage they have for commuting is their SSD (solid state drive) which means no moving parts just like a USB memory stick and no vibration or damage from transport.
