UK National Insurance Number Question

Hi. I'm heading over to Scotland on May 10th and I'm trying to line-up job interviews while I'm over there, or hopefully get a job and stay there.

But I have an interview on May 14th that states evidence of NI number as a requirement and I'm wondering if there's any chance I could get something temporary from the Job Centre when I get there, as I also won't have an address / live in the UK yet?

Probably a bit hopeless if I don't have an address and it's just an interview, not a guaranteed job; but thanks for reading anyway.

If you call the Department of Work and Pensions now and set up an interview for your NIN you might get away with having the letter from them confirming the interview. Will you be staying with friends when you arrive? If so, then get the letter sent to their address.

They very often ask for this as proof of eligibility to work in the UK moreso than a need for the NI number itself. You'll come across it a lot on application forms aswell. Given that I assume they know you're coming from abroad for the interview you can just explain you've applied for it/are about to apply for it and it shouldn't be a problem.

It's not a contractual thing or a pay issue, they can run payroll without it for the first wee while if they have to.
