    Hi OP,

The morning of my dad's funeral, I was walking through an estate. There were a few birds on the roof of one of the houses. Now ive heard birds sing before, but these birds were SINGING. They were going non stop, so loud, a type of bird song I never heard before or since. Its hard to describe really...

Keep the pleasant experience you had with you always.

    Regards.

OP you do hear a of a lot of experiences like this and I believe it really is a sign, or whatever you want to call it.
I'm sure you'll treasure the memory of it :)

    Hi OP,

It was a lovely thing and who are any of us to question the universe and how it works.

I remember after my own fathers funeral I recall waking in the middle of the night(never happened me before) and having a very strong feeling of him ,smiling and looking so content. He had suffered for months before with cancer and there were no happy days for him.

Ever since I have felt he is at peace and while he is missed like no words can describe I believe he is happy now.

keep it as a great memory and condolences on your loss.

I wouldn't rule it out, OP. Something really weird also happened with a bird the day a family member of mine died. Why birds are chosen as messengers is beyond me but I don't rule it out due to these experiences and others.

Yes it was almost certain a message from beyond... I can't think of any other explanations anyway.

My mother (OP, her name was Teresa too!) was sitting on the chair one day reading a magazine, when a robin flew into the room and landed on her shoulder. It rested on her shoulder for a few seconds before flying off. About an hour later, we got a phonecall to say my grandad had died - and he died around the time that robin made it's presence!

Sadly she died in 2005 and from time to time I find tiny white feathers! I really believe she leaves them lying around, and I feel comfort when i find them.

I definitely believe there has to be something. My mother was a great believer so I know she is definitely trying to make her presence known, it's the only thing that keeps me going having lost her and Dad within 4 weeks of each other (Dad believed it was complete and utter tosh!).

It's nothing. On any other day if you saw this bird you wouldn't think of "the beyond".

I agree. Landing on a car mirror and chirping!! Such extraordinarily un bird-like behaviour can not be explained by anything in this world. Clearly something paranormal took place here.

Its easier to be cynical than to challenge your beliefs...

My aunt died last year and in her last few weeks talked about angels a lot and one thing she told me that i've heard a lot since is that butterflies are a sign that your angel is watching you....I dont know about birds but I believe that when your at your lowest sometimes someone sends you a message

After my aunt died I found white feathers everywhere. I went travelling soon after she passed and i found them scattered inside my backpackfrom the top to the bottom about ten or fifteen of them .she had joked about coming with me and both of us knew she wouldnt live for more than a week or two more . . .and no I dont travell with feather boas or feather pillows.

You can rubbish the idea of anything super natural but why not let the OP have that feeling that her father was looking down on her...whether you believe it or not, little things like that can really help.

And if believing her dad sent her a sign in the form of a little bird chirping on her wing mirror was the end of it, no one in their right mind would take that lovely thought away from her. However its often the case that, that isn't the end of it. This can develope into, 'dad sent me a sign, he is trying to communicate with me....looks up Mediums in the yellow pages' The person is now putting themselves at the mercy of a fraud and a charletan who will tell them that the dad is saying god knows what to keep that person coming back and handing over more and more money to them. The person never gets to properly grieve for the deceased loved one because some scam artist with no scruples wants a few quid.

Thats why some people will answer the OP....'Lovely thought and a lovely thing to happen...a lovely thing that will pop thoughts of dad into your head every time you see a happy bird chirping away, a nice reminder of dad...but is it a message from dad......EH....NO.

OP look at it this way. There is zero proof of contact from the dead in an afterlife, even if you believe in an afterlife. All mediums are 100% proven frauds using cold reading techniques. All stories of contact from the other side are unverifyable anecdotes. So while one can believe in Heaven and believe in God. Believe me, there is no evidence that any deceased have ever contacted us from the other side. And by look at it this way I mean. Look at like God sent that little bird to sit on your wing mirror on the day of the funeral as a trigger to help you think about your dad every time you see a little bird. It was Gods way of helping you to keep you dads memory alive. But the bird was not sent by your dad because the dead do not have any influence on the here and now and there is no point consulting a medium as you will only get to talk with your dad again when you join him in heaven after a long life. Mediums are con-artists remember.

I don't believe in supernatural occurences, but if that little bird gave you some happiness and consolation on what must have been a sad day, then be glad of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,776 ✭✭✭Noopti

It is strange for a bird to land on your wing mirror and sing. But just take it as it is. An unusual, yet beautiful reminder of your father. :)

On a broader note, in times of grief I would say many people notice things they would normally not bat an eyelid at. It is human nature in these situations to look for the reassuring in the mundane, and the extraordinary in the ordinary. Birds could be singing their hearts out every day, and you might only really notice the beauty of it when you are jolted out of your normal circumstances, when someone close to you dies, or you recover from a serious illness etc.

the robin thing has happened in my family a few times with different generations.

Hi Teresa if you follow all the spiritual threads you will see between 60%-80% of people on this forum dont believe in god so why would they believe in something spiritual????

Believe what you feel, one thing I find is a lot of stuff goes on thats amazing and we seem to notice at strange times

You know the parable in the bible about when jesus says he will visit the mans house.....a begger arrives and the man turns him away expecting royality..... Things happen in strange and wonderful ways.

I had sent a tect message to my father 2 days before he died I got a message back the morning after he died saying "Not delivered" Imagine how I felt?

If the OP wants to believe that it was a sign from her Dad then I don't think anyone should take that away from her no matter what your beliefs or thoughts on it are. OP if you get a comfort from that moment don't let anyone take it away from you. Sorry for your loss.

i was at a funeral of a mother who died of breast cancer. They told her two little girls that her mother had turned into a butterfly.
When the coffin was getting ready to go down, the little butterflies landed on the coffin for 10/15 secs and flew off again. It did wonders for the girls.
If it was coincidence, it was very freaky.
    Nature is strange at times.

It's a belief. It could just as easily be a co incidence.
Who knows? We have no way of knowing untill we die ourselves.

Untill then we have our beliefs and when they do someone good and no harm then I'm all for it.

It's when beliefs start harming the believer, thats when I get my back up and complain.

For what it's worth,I firmly believe,we don't end when we die and we don't lose a connection with those we leave behind.
I've plenty of instances in my own life that makes me happy to agree with believing that :)

If this occurrence offers you comfort when you think of it as a sign from beyond. Why question it on here? It's a personal thing and finding out whether the majority agree with you or not will only ruin it for you.

I have had a lot of experiences that deep down I know are nothing more than coincidence but I do choose to think of them as something more if it helps me deal with things a little better. It's only harmful if it's the other way around, if you're looking at these things and choosing to see them as a sign of something negative.

Personally I wouldn't share something like this on Boards (even on PI) as I would be afraid of it getting ripped to shreds and me feeling like crap about it. But thanks for sharing it. I liked it a lot.

It is a lovely story and these things are reminders of the good in the world, especially during such a dark time.

However, I would very strongly reiterate the point made about so called 'mediums' etc. They are some of the VERY worst people in the world. They exploit weak, upset, and traumatised people. Stay well away from them. Keep his memory alive and rejoice in these little moments of magic.

Oh, come on. No one is advocating ringing up that fraud from Donegal's 'psychic line'. Mind you, it's no harm you made the point about such charlatans. Life is bigger than some people allow themselves to believe, though.

I know how you feel and that's why I didn't share my own family member story. And another even more crazy thing I had happen to me once. The older I get the more I understand that saying 'miracles are for believers'. It's a saying I've always had a problem with but experience is teaching me the reasoning behind it.

When my uncle George died, my aunt would visit his grave and a little bunny would appear at the cemetary gates and always hop ahead of her to the grave!

Her daughter went to a medium and was told "George wants you to look out for the rabbit".

When my Gran passed away in her sleep (at the nursing home) her old music box on the locker beside her just started playing by itself!

OP, I think it could be a message from beyond. I hope it gives you comfort and happiness :)

OP, i think that your experience is a wonderful sentiment that you should hold on to for the rest of your life. Events like these are well documented in Irish families......

My own family has many stories along these lines, and while i am regarded in my family as a bit of a black sheep(deeply catholic family, me = cynical) sometimes you just have to believe that there is something more powerful driving us than the time we spend walking the earth.

Dont let the naysayers get you down :)
