Can anyone recommend a good place to stay for the Berlin Marathon in September?

I am trying to book early and save a bit of money.
However it appears even more expensive than Dublin which amazes me.

Normally , I stay close to the start but this looks to be a very costly option. Would the smart thing be to stay close an underground station further out and take public transport in on the day?

Your trying to book early :D are you kidding, I had mine booked months ago. Another option could be appartments, hunnymonster I think had a link last year for this. I'm staying in Kempinski Hotel Bristol Berlin and Hotel Elba am Kurfürstendamm. The reason for the 2 hotels is that we decided to stay an extra night but the original hotel was booked solid. The public transport in Berlin is fantastic, so hopefully that will help in a cost friendly area.Best of luck

Did Berlin last year and stayed in an apartment. It worked out ~€600 for 5 nights, thurs - Tues. We got a 2 bed apartment in the Malmo district which is within walking distance to mitte, but 5 minutes on train. Worked out alot cheaper than hotel for 4 of us. Link below.
Other friends of mine stayed in the Europa hotel, which seemed nice too.

I booked my apartment through http://www.ferienwohnung-zimmer-berlin.de/ - worked out at 58 euro per night for two of us. I'm sure you can get cheaper, but I booked back in January, so I'd say availability is going to be your biggest problem.
