    Hi,

Failed NCT on my 96 corolla due to high Co2 emissions at high idle. To pass it has to below 0.3 % and I got 0.35%.

Any advice and what to do ? Catalytic converter ? ???

    thanks

    converter
    or
    lambda sensor
    or
    crack/hole in exhaust.

can you jack the car up and get under it while ticking over to check for leaks around the seals?

dont get under the car if its just held up with a jack! Use axel stands or something safe!

if you have no access to axel stands (i bought a set in lidl for 10e which take two tonnes) then i would recommend going to your local quick/fast/exhaust fit.

If you could post up all your emissions results, lambda result and engine temp, somebody might be able to give more advice.

Seeing as you failed on CO (not CO2 BTW) and not by a whole lot, this may be a case where an "Italian tune up" might do some good.

    +1

OP - if the car failed on nothing else, I would just sent it to a re-test after an "Italian tune up". This means that you should drive your car hard for about 15 minutes after it is warmed up just before the re-test. This will clear built-up carbon from the engine / exhaust. It will also make the cat very hot, which means it will work very efficiently.

can someone explain what i might need to be done to pass nct. this is what the report said-

    engine/oil temp 85 c
    low idle (720 rpm ) CO 0.59% above 0.5% fail FAIL/REFUSAL

    the other emissions passed.

    thanks for your time.
