Is distance more interesting than 'passion' or closeness?

Sometimes people think places that have a culture of distance, like SE England for example, are very dull. However, I think emotional distance is more interesting, and allows for the cultivation of our more cerebral without being forced into submission to the primal. Cultures with passion and lck of emotional reserve may seem more exciting but I would argue they produce less great art and are not as emotionally rewarding as sentiment is cheaper.

How is this matter of any philosophical relevance?
