Password protecting folders on external HD

    Can anyone recommend some software for protecting certain folders on my external hardrive. Cheers.

    The stuff you have on the external you would put into a folder and then encrypt that folder. Its unencrypted with a password that only you know. 'truecrypt' is one software you can use . free download. You can set up so that any pc doesn't need to have truecrypt installed on it - lots of on line tutorials on how to set up.

    Thanks for the reply.
    I had a very quick read of some of the documents. I dont need to encrypt the folder Im just looking to set a password on some folders. Do ye know off the top of yer head if I can do this with Truecrypt? Or is there another way?

    Truecrypt will password protect folders, you basically 'mount' them as you provide a password, the password can decrypt the folder momentarily or for as long as Truecrypt is active (starts up with Windows), the process is transparent to you, the folder are just there.. When you unplug the HD or log off, then everything will be encrypted to anyone that comes sniffing about.
