Did a rescan this evening and a fifth channel was listed under the tv section on my DTT box, called RTE NL Test. However showing no video or epg. I'm getting my signal from Mullaganish. Anyone else getting this ?

Yes, I seem to get a new channel labelled RTE NL test with black screen.
As a matter of fact with a fresh scan on woodcock hill I get 18 programs found.
There appears to be perhaps another multiplex operating at 690 rather than 682 khz.
All the channels are just duplicates of the main four and radio.

Ok, it appears to me that the versions of the channels that have just been added are at a resolution of 1920x1088 and don't work with my current config though sound does stutter.
The main channel duplicate labels change to 1920x1088 at 0.7mbit accoding to DVB viewer.
    Early HDTV tests?.

Also showing here, my tv (z81 pana) does HD and MPEG4 etc so still black screen from them, says no video!

I've just done a rescan via PlayTV / PS3 from Woodcock Hill. I've got one additional TV station (the RTENL Test Channel) no picture, and no indication it's HD as yet. Possibly added so as to facilitate test without affecting TV 3 or TG 4 as happens now - official launch of RTE Mux not too far away ?

    Good spot guys :D

I think DVBViewer just defaults to saying 1920x1088 when there's no video stream detected. I noticed the same thing when Three Rock went down last month for Kippure's initial testing.

Yes I reckon you could be right there. But I do hear stuttering audio on the channels on that second mux going now on 690.
Pat Gleeson, you need to delete and re-scan, they might not be HD but there are 18 channels found, good spot indeed.

Also getting the RTENL Test channel from Three Rock. It is displaying "No Video" on my Panasonic Z81.

    Hi Steve,

Did you rescan and get this channel ??

I am also on Three rock and I have not been able to get any TV channels on my LZD81 since RTENL made a change recently... I can only get the 4 radio channels , but no TV ?

Yes, I did a re-scan. My Z81 has "Notify for new service" (or some wording like that) set to "On".
When I turned on the TV it said that new services were available, I re-scanned and the RTE NT Test was displayed along with the 4 Radio channels.

Actually that "Notify for new service" was the cause of my losing the 4 TV channels a couple of weeks ago.confused.gif

Thanks for that :) I noticed the signal strength is up from 80% to 100%

    Kippure also carrying this.

Now showing the standard test card

I like the "RTENL are currently carrying out engineering tests. This channel does not represent a future live service" in the EPG info. Maybe we'll all get name checks next :)

Channel now not showing up on a scan (on Clermont)

I find my z81 can scan to add new services without deleting old services

Yes that's the European SD transmission standard. It's the digital equivalent of 625 line analogue.

    Interesting...

My DVD Recorder now picks up the test channel but won't tune in any other channel on CH53, either TV or Radio. The signal strength and quality for the MUX are coming in at the same level as Freeview for me, very very good, so the signal strength has increased it seems. I just wonder why all other DTT tuners in the house can pick up all 8 services and the test channel when this particular receiver will only pick up the test.

Is the test in MPEG4 too?

Presumably not and it's why it's the only one the box recognises? Nothing's coming up on it though, no test card or EPG info from Clermont.

And indeed the same as Digital Cable, Digital MMDS and non-HD Sky/FreeSat FTA Satellite.

On a Sony W4000 or V4500 series TV, if you press the info button the RTENL test channel is showing the recommended minimum age indicator for a program. In this case 5. See picture.

Info on page 13 of the manual about various on-screen symbols when in digital mode. Any other brands of TV showing this?

I've similar tv, need to find aeriel to test it out.

I have a V4000 and will check it later.

Humax boxes also have these symbols... perhaps someone with a Humax terrestrial box can confirm if it is showing up on there?

Just a thought, but maybe they will be ditching their GA, CH, YA, PS and MA ratings in favour of the 3, 7, 12, 15/16, 18 ones that STB's have in their software for use with parental controls?

I did a rescan last night on my Panasonic Z81 and the RTE NL Test channel disappeared. I was just left with the 4 Radio channels. They are all coming in with signal and quality levels of 10 (out of 10) from Three Rock on rabbits ears aerial.

I did a rescan on my Sony X3000 & found the new test channel from Three Rock. Signal strength has also improved somewhat.

Hope they leave this channel for tests, and do not turn on TV3

this channel in now broadcasting video and music scenes from all over ireland

    very strange

That channel has been there since the 2nd mux "launched", it will possibly be the home of RTÉ 2 HD if/when it moves to it's new home.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 529 ✭✭✭Pat Gleeson

If you're referring to the channel 'Future Services 2', it does that on a loop every few hours, and reverts to a test card. It's testing the proposed HD channel for the second multiplex (Mux 2).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 815 ✭✭✭mickeyboymel

I see there is now a RTE2 HD Promo and Saorview Graphic built into this loop, have not had time to watch a full hour but it may be inserted where the test card portion was.
