Exercise and Anaemia

I have severe anaemia and haven't been able to exercise at all like I did before I was diagnosed (exercising for nearly 2 hours a day).
I want to do some exercises to keep in shape and thought Pilates or Yoga might do the trick. A friend told me I should contact my doctor before starting these, does anyone know if this is true? Are these not gentle exercise routines? Thanks.

    Hi fifomania

Yep the general consensus would be for you to go to your gp first and tell him/her your will be taking up some exercises. For the staff of the gym to prescribe you a workout routine they would first ask you to go to a gp for clearance because of your circumstances. To be honest not too sure about pilates or yoga but I am sure the same applies..
