Advice on job problems

In 20 years I have never been in this position before.
I was asked to do a job which I agreed to do even though it wasn't really what I do anymore. I have my estimate whcih outlines the conditions I would be willing to do the job in. This was accepted but nothing was signed. It was sent by email though.
However to cut a long story short, I arrived to complete the last few days of what was 4 week job this morning to find that 'the committee' had seen the unfinished job and had decided that it wasn't up to scratch. I wasn't even given a right to reply.
Now, what I would like to know is, have I any come back?
I am totally confident that the job was fine and was lacking only its finishing. Even accepting that there were problems do I not have a right to rectify what was wrongly percieved as problems?
I stand to lose a lot of money for time, equipment and materials for 'letting somebody out of a hole'. Am I screwed here?
    Thanks in advance

There's a forum charter which does not allow for legal advice. Sorry.

If that is the way you feel about this practically, surely someone on the committee must be a rational thinker? Present your invoices for payment etc.

I am locking the thread. Seek legal advice from a solicitor.
