Hiring a car when I'm under 21

    Hi everyone,

    I'm thinking about spending a week or two in France this summer. I wanted to visit maybe three or four places, spending a few nights in each, and I wanted to hire a car, but after checking some car hire websites it seems you can't hire a car unless you're 21 or older. Which I'm not. Does anyone know of a company that hires cars out to under 21-year-olds? It's really annoying, I don't see how I'd manage this holiday without a car! I wasn't planning some crazy boozy holiday either, just a really quiet, relaxing jaunt around Provence :(

    i doubt you'll find one. i think seanybiker's solution is the only one and that will set you back around 600 euros

    Age minimum
    Dans la plupart des pays Europcar, le conducteur doit être âgé d'au mois 21 ans pour louer une voiture et être titulaire d'un permis de conduire réglementaire depuis au moins 1 ans. Cependant, l'âge minimum peut varier en fonction du pays de location et de la catégorie de véhicule demandée. Une surcharge Jeune Conducteur peut s'appliquer dans certains cas. Pour les réservations en ligne, ces informations sont précisées dans les pages de conditions du pays location ainsi que dans les conditions tarifaires au moment de la réservation.

    They seem to request that you be at least 21 but they do have an insurance extra for young drivers :

    Surcharge Jeune conducteur :
    Tout conducteur de moins de 25 ans doit souscrire une assurance spécifique. Renseignez-vous au moment de la réservation ou de la prise du véhicule.

    So if you're younger than 25 you need to pay an extra charge (I think it's 66euro)


    You can always hire out a 125cc bike with your existing car license.
