Hello. Just wondered if anyone could help really.

I am looking to buy a Focus Cayo 2008, not the 105, second hand from somewhere and was wondering if there is anything I should know about this bike, before I take the plunge so to speak. If any of you on the board have one you want to sell i might be intrested 58 size wise!

    Anyway, thanks in advance.

It's a very good bike, I had one last year, sold it to Lumen as I upgraded to a Litespeed.

I'd consider the Cayo 105 or other options such as the Planet X however, if you can't find someone who wants to part with their Cayo.

Thanks for your reply! I was looking at the 105 but I keep hearing thats it's not as good value for money as the 2008 version, for some reason. Whats the difference in the frame weight then?

    Thanks again, Josh

Took delivery of a 105 last week and it for its virginal 100k spin today, missed the ORW randonee but went out any way. Sweet bike very responsive, very stiff went like a rocket.......but then again I am used to a hardtail:)

Frame weight I imagine should be around the same as 2008, the difference is in the components- 105 groupset rather than Ultegra SL and maybe slightly cheaper wheels. The total 'claimed' weight for the 2009 105 is 8.6kg while they claimed 8.05kg for the 2008. Like all claimed weights take these figures with a pinch of salt.

Thanks guys! Sounds as though if I could get the 2008 model that would be best but if not the 105 is still a great bike! Beyond me why they would use cheaper componets in the newer bike!

    Thanks, Josh

It's due to the fall in sterling (Focus are German and thus their base is in euros) and a particularly strong Yen which has seen UK pricing on Shimano components as much as double. There was a sweet spot around Christmas when old stock was still around, then prices in the UK went skywards.

Seem to have settled upon a year old Planet X Pro Carbon

    with the following specs;

Frame material – Planet X Pro Carbon monocoque frame
    Headset – Planet X integrated 1 1/8th
    Wheels – Planet X Model B 20h/24h
    Tyres – Schwalbe Stelvio 700X23C
Crankset – FSA Gossamer compact double 50-34
    Cassette – Shimano Ultegra 10-speed, 12-25
Shifters – Shimano Ultegra 10-speed STI
    Front mech – Shimano Ultegra
    Rear mech – Shimano Ultegra
    Brakes – Dia Compe
    Seat post – FSA carbon
Saddle – Planet X SL team saddle with titanium rails

Is it a good bike and how does it compare with the cayo of either 2008 or now?

    Thanks, Josh

It compares favourably -the Planet X is a little lighter, but the components are possibly *slightly* worse, but it's still a great bike -loads of people on here (myself included) have Planet X's and afaik all are happy with the bikes!

Enjoy the bike, it is certainly a nice one (I have test ridden a couple of them.) I don't think you will be disappointed.

Found it on gum tree pritty good deal though. I don't think there is any difference between last years and this years model but I could be wrong.

    Thanks.

Why do Planet-Xs come with massively setback seatposts?

Somthing to do with the compact frame size I think.

There's no difference between last years Planet X, and this years -there's a new one coming in the next couple of months, but it's apparently a different beast that will be lighter, stiff and more expensive
