Am down again with a heavy cold and feel like ****. Back to work tomorrow...am hating where I work....have been sick with bad colds a lot this year....

Thing is my boss stresses me out....EVERYTHING I do he critisises...he's very ego orientated...all my work is crap he says and mocks me constantly...i finish work and my tummy is in a knot for next day....

When he's in good form he's great...usually he is very moody(smokes a LOT) however and gives out about EVERYTHING I do!! Its a nightmare - I fight back of course but is it worth it?? I work on my own so dont have a team to rely on...

Any advise? Am ready to walk...job market is picking up again...

Total sympathy OP. I hate my boss also. He's a self satisfied, smug, nit picking, small minded creep. I work in a very small operation, so can't hide from him at all.
Here's one tip - I pretend to become so immersed in what I'm doing that I don't hear or see him when he tries to talk to me. Then I look up, blinking, and say 'sorry? I didn't hear what you said', and he has to repeat himself all over again. I know it annoys him and it gives me great satisfaction.

It might sound petty but it gets me through the day! Don't let the ba****d grind you down!!

Keep a note of every time he does or says something unprofessional, taking notes of specifics, dates and times, and then visit a solicitor after a while to see if you have grounds to sue him. Workplace bullying is vile and unacceptable and any boss engaging in it should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

+1 to that sounds like an intelligent way to deal with the problem.

I would be cautious about leaving your job without a backup plan. I made this mistake and have been unemployed for a while

Job market picking up again......According to who?????

Life is too short to dread going into work every day like that, but make sure you don't do anything hasty that you might regret. There is nothing to stop you applying for jobs and interviewing before you hand in your notice. Use your annual leave days for this. Look before you leap. And take some vitamin C supplements to ward off those colds!;)

Good advice about keeping a record of everything. Are you a member of a trade union they might be able to help. I'm in a similar situation so know how miserable it can make you feel. If you are constantly getting colds it might be a sign that you are stressed, maybe you could check this out with your doctor? Don't be bullied out of your workplace, why is it always the victim of bullying who are forced to leave? Hope it works out ok for you.
