Printed tickets - how do I know?...

    Hi,
Can anybody tell me how can I be sure, when I buy a ticket from someone second-hand, that they wont just print another ticket from their ticketmaster account and get to the gig before me?! i.e. once the barcode on the ticket I have bought, has been scanned in already, it then becomes useless.

    Cheers,
    Dave.

There is no way. Ticketmaster at one point used to reissue ticketfast tickets with their own tickets if asked. However nowdays they seem to deny that its something they do or ever did. So your best bet is to make sure you've the contact details of the person you are buying off so they don't pull a legger.

Yes, the original will be cancelled with the new barcoding system. You often have to go to the box office to claim new ones with your CC, rather than them sending out more which touts could sell on again.

Years back before barcoding I heard of somebody here thrown out of the point for buying seated tickets. They bought from a tout and tickets were real, but cancelled and the CC holders arrived to find them in their seats, as they had proof of purchase with the CC the others were turfed out. If it was standing back then it would have worked, not now though.

With concerts being sold months before gigs I expect many go missing, if you lose them best say they never came in the post at all. Dunno if they would replace lost ones as easily.

Yeah, it's a nagging drawback with barcode verification. Non-issue for Ticketmaster, etc.

Personally I'm wary about buying an email-printed ticket secondhand. If I was buying it outside the gig, I would verify it beforehand and then complete the transaction. Don't think I would risk it otherwise.

I have less concern with official tickets, but there is still the off-chance that they are duds on arrival to the venue. So yeah, there's no real way of knowing. All you can rely on is your gut feeling with the seller.
