Oh man, what's one to do with a young jack russell with what seems to be a "phantom pregnancy"?

Are "phantom pregnancy" very common occurances?

Our Lab started her 1st heat cycle about 6 weeks ago (we noticed enlarged vulva blood drops on the floor around the 15th March, this blood dropping lasted for about 2 weeks).
We are 99.9% sure that no dog got near her during the heat cycle but
a few days ago we noticed her nipples have gotten bigger.
Haven't noticed any other signs e.g. weight gain or anything else different about her.

We will prob call the Vet later on
but how soon could a Vet tell from a bloodtest/ultra-sound/x-ray ?

Our old labrador had this as well, apparently it is quite common in Labs. Thankfully it was a phantom and no legion of hairy babies awaited us...

Oh yea and goto your vet if you can to be on the safe side.

My parents Westie/Cavalier cross had the same problem. It also had a small teddy that it thought was it's puppy. I think it just stopped at one point and never returned.

It might help to get the bitch spayed as they can be prone to phantoms if they start having them. It is also much safer and healthier for a bitch to be spayed.

Are you certain she's defo not pregnant, has had no contact with a male what so ever? Might be a good idea to get her spayed too ;)

Thanks for the info and advise. Glad to report that there has not been a male dog on the scene so it's definately a "phantom" job and glad to report that "action man" (adoptive pup) is healthy and doing well!!
