Am thinkin of going away for a weekend in early June for 1st anniversary, and just looking for ideas of where to go really. Anywhere in Ireland is alright but would prefer the west or Donegal or Kerry. Was looking at Ryanair or Aer Lingus flights as well. Looking for something on the cheap side hopefully...with the recession and all! Maybe Edinburgh, Paris..? Any ideas would be great.

How about Amsterdam, Riga or Poland?

Often overlooked however you will have a great weekend away and not too far and all accessible by Ryanair or Aer Lingus.

I am going to recommend Riga in Latvia. I stayed in the Reval Latvija hotel which was the hotel you had to stay in by law(if you were foreign) by KGB rules during the Soviet days. It is a brilliant hotel with a good location overlooking the park and not expensive. I had a deluxe room facing the old town in the main wing and also later on a newer room in the new lower level wing. Check out deals to get a suite!

There are lots of restaurants and bars nearby in the city and lots of shopping. Shopping unfortunately is to Western European prices so not many savings here but food and drink are cheaper by far.

Although part of Europe it still has its own currency.

    Beautiful city and friendly people.
