there has been a orange engine warning light on with a fortnight and also saying antipollution fault and it beeps once when starting up. i went to a mechanic with a diagnostic who said something that the heater plugs were not going off straight away after starting. also that the clutch was incoherent or something. well these were the two faults logged. he then turned the light off as it was not serious and he was busy for a few days but as soon as i got home and started it up again the light came on again. i didnt get time to take it back to him yet. now today the car is losing power as if there is no turbo kicking in. also it wont rev passed 3000rpm when idle. this only happens at times and then drives on again grand. now the mechanic said the clutch is almost on the way out but keep driving till it slips but would this lack of power be something to do with the clutch.

car is a 2002 peugeot 307 1.4 hdi with just over 104000 miles. brialliant car up to this.

can't be the clutch, your clutch justs acts like, i suppose a bearing or something like that it just allows you to change between gears without ripping all the teeth on your gear cogs. If your engine is losing power it would be electrical, turbo or engine related so basically everything but your clutch, lol, sorry!

Is there a noticeable clutch judder on take off or is the clutch noticeably heavier? These are all signs of a clutch on the way out, if not then your clutch is fine! The clutch and loss of power shouldn't be related!

the clucth is coming out till the end until it takes off. i didnt take any notice of it being hard as i am used of tractors which can be fierce heavy likewise with the judder none there. but it is coming out till the end and apparently they cant be adjusted because there hydraulic clutches.

Pull up handbrake (handbrake on). Ease out clutch. Back of car should move down towards the ground ( similar to crouching down) If you get tight response and car bites down clutch should be fine. If not this could indicate issues

ok will try that lister. any ideas what is wrong with the lack of power it have full power at one stage then poor power the next minute.

As mentioned. Does that model have Turbo?Could indicate some issues with turbo if you are getting lag at higher speeds.

    fuel filter/ air filter,

turbo ,sensor, they could all cause loss of power

when did you last service it and change all these filters,

also the turbo do you give it around 10 minutes from cold start to warm up everytime, this could cause the turbo to go, and suck all the oil up from the sump,

when did you last change the timing belt, chain im not sure which one you have , but at that milage it needs changing,

    and the clutch

you will know when this is going when you take off and the car revs up and is very lazy to take off in gear, also while driving when you put the boot down the car will simply rev up and not gain any speed

i have also come across dud batteries that cause the cars electronics to go dead resulting in a loss of power and trouble starting

oil and oil filter changed 500 miles ago as it was just due. there was a major service then at 98000miles including all filters and new timing belt. i would be very good to service it. it wouldnt go over the 6000 without being serviced

Sounds like your car is in "Limp home mode" especially with the light

coming back on, revs and power stopping at a certain point, this happens

when the cars ecu detects a fault in a senor or sensors. Get a diagnostic

check as soon as you can.

This happened in our 2005 megane a while ago, its not the clutch

It was a sensor near to the cat converter which affected the air/fuel mix, it wasnt pulling wel at all and a struggle up hills at times! Was a quick enough job to fix iirc. Would imagine its the same case with your car

yip its a sensor then ,

i often seen the same problem with a vectra

    does it stall on ya

and if not then it probably will if you dont get the new sensor

ya it was very poor coming up a hill last night. normally would get up in 4th and defo second but i had to go into 2nd but there were two really fat people about 17stone each. the loss of power only happens at times but you only notice it really when going up slopes

I had the same problem wit my Toyota Avensis. I took it to my mechanic www.mechanicdublin.com and he put the diagnostics on it. I got a code but it could not be worked out. Toyota seemed to have blocked it. Without charging me he said to take it to the main dealer. Having read a few threads I found out that the car needed a software upgrade. Had to take it to www.denismahony.ie in the end. But once they did the upgrade it sorted it out! Cost a few quid though but in fairness the car is running like a dream ever since.
