“He is working on a new project that has been commissioned by the BBC and feels he wants to concentrate on that.”

Curly-haired former Popworld presenter Simon will not be replaced by a permanent host, but by a rolling rota of guest celebs.

Comic Noel Fielding will join chubby Phill Jupitus as team captain for the new series, to be screened in the autumn.

    :(
    Absolutely Gutted.

I wasn't a fan of celebrity hosts is the post-Lamarr times, but I'm glad Noel Fielding is coming back.

    Damn. :(
Amstell was hilarious - I've never seen anyone manage to be so cruel to guests while looking so innocent at the same time.

:( They'll never get anyone as good as Simon Amstell.

    Absolutely terrible news! :(

Amstell was the best thing to happen to Buzzcocks in years...!

Now we have to suffer through presumably woeful guest hosts like Germaine Greer etc.

Terrible news, enjoyed Amstell's jibes immensely. As for rotating hosts its a nonsense and rarely works.

Just kill the show off ffs.

This will be just like when Have I got News For You had guest hosts. It was never as good again.

Aw no... Him and Preston is one of my favourite moments in television.

    Gutted
Hes hilarious, best moment was him and Amy Winehouse.

No harm The funniest thing about him was his hair. He had the same script writers as Lamarr, so not his fault.

Damnit. I started out really disliking Amstell for some reason (Lamarr was a hard act to follow) but his wit and persona won me over. He made the show his own and in some cases out did Lamarr with various shenanigans. When Bailey left last year it looked like the end for the show and this more or less seals it's fate now I reckon...

I'm gonna go against of the tide here and say......best thing that could've happened to the show!

    I thought he was terrible.

    Just my 2c

Shame, one of the few british comedian type people I actually liked! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,279 ✭✭✭RobertFoster

That's a pity :( I really liked him as host.

The rotating host on HIGNFY works well, but I don't think it's transferred very well to other shows (The Panel for example). I hope it works out for them, or at least they find a good new host soon. Jupitus on his own isn't much of an appeal tbh.

What has Lamarr done since he left?

My least favorite panel show by a long stretch; get rid of it!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 182 ✭✭jane86

No way! Won't be watching it anymore then. My favourite episode has to be the one with Donnie Tourette! :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,199 ✭✭✭Shryke

I was just about to mention Donnie! That was ****ing hilarious, it's a real pity he's going. I don't think it'll be as good without him. He was the perfect replacement for LeMarr.

What has happened to Mark Lamarr. Has he been kidnapped by aliens or returned to his mother planet.

    Thanks for the info.

Is it a bit of a come down from a fairly high profile tv show.

Did he upset some one important or something.

With any luck they'll get rid of the unfunny Jupitus as well - just have to unbolt him from the furniture.

Oh noes..... Noel Fielding is coming back.... he was absolutely awful and his jokes are about as funny as looking for 5 random nouns in a dictionary.

    Says who?
    According to who?

Apparently he is a lot happier doing this and probably getting paid more!

buzzcocks has been dead in the water for at least 2 seasons
They were making jokes about it for most of the last series

Amstell has become a comedian off the back of this show and is doing quite well out of it

    Everybodies happy!

Amstell was great - far better than Lamarr - but the programme's death knoll came when Bill Bailey left

Ah sh!te. I thought he was great. His Amy Winehouse episode was fantastic. As was the one with John Barrowman. I hate the rotating host idea. I don't think its ever worked on a show, not even on Have I Got News For You.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 432 ✭✭Daelus

Did he really need to be described as "chubby Phil Jupitus"?

Very disappointed. I didn't much like Simon Amstell at first but now I prefer him to Mark Lamarr. He's a fantastic host and I loved how there was no bull**** with him; if someone made crap music he'd tell them. He'll be difficult to replace and with the loss of Bill Bailey on top of that... well.

Though I do really like Noel Fielding, I think he works well on the show. At the same time though I can see where people are coming from with the whole "random nonsensical jokes" thing.

Amstell was by far the best thing on the show. I think it would have died a couple of years ago otherwise.

Did he really only do three series? Seemed like he was on it for longer than that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,180 ✭✭✭✭Basq

We'll probably never see that Russell Brand episode either! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 543 ✭✭✭Jeapy

Crap! Hadn't heard about this until now. Having a bad day as it is! gonna go home and watch him on youtube later! Hated Mark Lamarr on it, quite enjoyed the rolling presenters last time, but Simon ftw! Hope the new show he's working on will be good!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,179 ✭✭✭RichTea

    Bring back Mark Lamarr so!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭iguana

Aah crap! Don't think will be up to much from now on. It suffered without Bailey and I really don't find Fielding funny.

Amstell is fantastic, he says the nastiest (but most honest) things while looking so adorably innocent. And on the few occasions when he had a guest on who was well able to give as good as he got, he took it well and was perfectly able to laugh at himself.

And if you want to laugh at Simon here he is as a cocky kid.

Mark Lamarr quit all his TV work to focus on his Radio show, as he was getting more enjoyment out of that, and a lot more creative control over what he was doing.

    Fair play to him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,484 ✭✭✭JIZZLORD

i preferred lamarr to amstell on buzzcocks. guest hosts will be interesting but the show needs an anchor

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,457 ✭✭✭Cactus Col

Now that's a shame. I haven't watched buzzcocks since Davina McCall guest captained one of the teams. Which was awful.

Noel Fielding is a poor enough replacement for Baily (although Fielding does have his moments) ...

Just a bump for this news which emerged yesterday.

    For f*cks sake BBC..
NOEL FIELDING has been axed as team captain on the next series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

The Clown Prince had been signed up as a regular on the long-running BBC comedy panel show.

But when details of his drug taking emerged over the weekend, Beeb top brass withdrew the offer.

The Mighty Boosh funny man confessed on Sunday that over the past couple of years he had become a heavy cocaine user as his fame grew, but stressed he'd put his wild days behind him.

His assurances weren't enough to persuade producers on the music quiz, who were swift to pull the plug.

A source told me: "Noel is absolutely gutted. As soon as news of his drug use broke he was told that he was no longer wanted on Buzzcocks. BBC bosses are very strict when it comes to drug users being on the screen.

"It's different from RICHARD BACON when he was on Blue Peter. This is meant to be a rock 'n' roll show. He's really disappointed because he was looking forward to the gig so much.

"He realises that his behaviour got out of hand and is saddened that it came back to haunt him."
    Source

So.. let me get this straight.. he confesses to drug use in the past but is now clean... and the Beeb sack him for this.

    They're absolutely taking the piss!

Absolutely no reason whatsoever to watch the next series now! :(

They probably don't want another flurry of Daily Mail readers phoning in to complain about a drug user on a programme they've never watched, but heard about the incident second-hand, and are vehemently outraged.

That's a bit of a joke when you consider this story from a few years back:
Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney has revealed he once tried heroin at the height of the legendary band's success.

"I didn't realise I'd taken it - I was just handed something and smoked it," he told Uncut magazine, adding: "It didn't do anything for me."

The musician said he also took cocaine "for about a year" but was "never completely crazy" about the drug.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3769511.stm

I'm not aware of Paul McCartney being banned from BBC television in the aftermath of that story.

That sh1te with Brand and Ross will haunt the BBC for years to come, spineless clowns.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

Buzzcocks is now dead to me.

Absolutely ridiculous carry on by the BBC.

I'm just after seeing the ad for the new series of shooting stars and guess who's on it?

Does this mean they won't show that episode? I doubt it. Also half the guests on Buzzcocks are off their faces, Amy Winehouse was on it ffs!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,180 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    Now I'm confused!
'Buzzcocks' to return with new lineup

The BBC has announced that Never Mind The Buzzcocks will return this autumn with a brand new lineup.

Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding joins Phill Jupitus on the show as a team captain, while the series will be presented by guest hosts David Walliams, Alex James, Dermot O'Leary, Jack Whitehall, Rhod Gilbert, Frank Skinner, Mark Watson and James Corden.

"I am so excited about Buzzcocks. I am leaping across the Camden rooftops dressed as a small white kitten," Fielding said.

Executive editor Katie Taylor added: "It's great to welcome so many comics and top musicians, many who have proven themselves as Buzzcocks panellists in the past, to the host hot seat.

"Noel Fielding will bring his eclectic music taste and surrealist humour, while Phill, having been there since day one, now takes the title of the elder statesman of the show."

It was reported earlier that Simon Amstell had decided to move on from his role as presenter on the gameshow.

Never Mind The Buzzcocks returns on Tuesday, September 29 to BBC Two.
So Fielding was brought back... or never sacked..?

aw no gutted :( saw him walking around in edinburgh while i was over with some of the girls for the comedy festival last month! had a very teen-girl omg-its-a-celebrity moment!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,180 ✭✭✭✭Basq

So, anyone watch the first episode of the new series last night?

Wasn't great to be honest.. although Corden wasn't great (preferred when he was a guest team captain), he'll probably be the best they'll get as he's:

    i) quite witty
ii) seems genuinely interested in music
iii) seems to be able to dish out unscripted and witty replies to some comments

Noel Fielding who I'm normally a fan of.. was a bit.. off.

    Janeane Garofalo was woeful.. christ!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,279 ✭✭✭RobertFoster

I thought it was OK. Killed a half hour for me while I was waiting for Gameswipe to come on. It's no where near as good as it was, and now that it's back to, ugh, celebrity hosts, it'll have a hard time getting into a good groove.

Funnily enough, I like the rotating host of HIGNFY, but that's probably because Hislop and Merton can play off each other quite consistantly as well as doing their own thing. I don't think Fielding or Jupitis said more than two lines to each other.

I thought it was OK. It wasn't great but there were still some good moments in it. Paloma Faith is a very very strange girl.
