Where can I get one of these? Online from US just over a hundred dollars but I haven't found a site that ships here yet.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I presume that it puts unnecessary strain on the engine through the exhaust.

I've seen these in a hardware shop. Draper (common diy/tools brand) made it. I think it was about €50 or so, but it's a while back, so don't qote me on that.

They use them a lot in sandy areas where a normal jack would just sink in. But in saying that they usually have big 4x4's. Can't see that they could do that much damage if designed and manufactured correctly, but I wouldn't buy a cheap one off ebay would definately need to hold it in hand and check it out.

I was toying with the idea of getting one of these myself at some stage (jack up the van if it gets stuck in mud) and did some reading on them on various off roading sites. There are several issues with tese things:
The connector for the exhaust doesn't always fit tight, so it might not work at all.
The connector will just popp off once the pressure starts to build and you'll have to re-attach it several times.

And lastly ...they are bloody dangerous, as the vehicle may slide off uncontrollably in any direction at any given time or the vehicle may just roll over the jack, crunching it up underneath.

I don't think the car can slide off it but that remains to be seen. Two wheels are always on the ground and you can use the handbrake and/or a copule of pieces of wood to secure one of the connected wheels.

As long as you don't get underneath the car and are careful I don't see an issue. I couldn't find any pages that report an accident involving this type of jack but quite a few that sang its praise.

They had them in Woodies at a hundred Euro, cheers John!
