Good race on this Sunday if anyone is fit enough to do it, teams from Italian and England are over for it.

Anyone know if a S3 rider can do it? as i see on the race flyer that it says the race is for S1 and S2.

You can upgrade yourself to a B but once you do it you can't go back down. If you really want to do it you might be able to take a one day license at the sign on.

The road won't be closed but will be very busy with the race entourage, if it passes you'll probably have to stop to let it go by.

Okay so the race starts at 11am and its 100km into the race so I guess its going to be anywhere between 1:30pm and 2:30pm for the guys to get to the climbs. I'll be out early so I'll bet them over and back, doubt I'll get the KOH victory though.

I could be wrong but I don't think they do the Slieve Mann climb, and it would be a rolling road closure so apart from the riders themselves nobody will bother you.

Was up them today and have to say that Slieve Mann seems a tougher climb, but can't imagine racing the Elliott tho!

Elliott route this year leaves out the Old Wicklow Gap so is less dificult than the last few years. Its fairly flat until the Elliott climb. The aim is to keep the race more together before the climb
Its never gone over Slieve Maan.

Where is this mythical 'old' Wicklow Gap?

Tried to find it once and ended up having to play the bejesus out of my banjo.

Yeah was about to ask the same question - where is it?

The Old Wicklow Gap is between Coolgraney and Tinahealy. Its where the race used to blow apart with still 40 miles to go.Some of the Bray lads might get a group going if anyone wants to go take a look .

are you sure its a rolling road closure?

for anyone riding / involved it would be best to check with organisers

some lad might come a cropper if he crosses the white line in the wrong circumstances

i heard the finish looks slighty downhill this year which sounds unusual

Well pretty much every road race I've ever seen / raced in Ireland has used rolling road closure, from the Rás to the Tour of Ireland, only criteriums have closed roads afaik, from what I've seen the moto marshalls on the Shay Elliott will even usher traffic past the peleton in the outside lane along the N11 dual carraigeway, which is fair enough.

Regardless, most race organisers request that riders stay to the left of the centre white line, its only in the biggest races with the biggest bunches that riders can get away with taking up the whole road - and even then it's not ideal - but there is always tight control at vital junctions and around the finish area so that shouldn't be a problem.

Would anybody here have a link\Photo of the route? I am looking for the road details (for example like the garmin computer).

I know there is a photo of the route on BW website, but I would like a more detailed map

    thanks in advance
