Travelling around Europe by train...

I'm thinking about taking a holiday in europe this summer.

I'm thinking about getting a cheap ryanair flight to some random city and using trains to visit 2 or 3 more interesting cities.

I'm thinking of flying to charleroi and then going to brussels, amsterdam, berlin, frankfurt or stuttgart

I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for travelling by train around europe?

Is it a good idea to book before i go or should i just get tickets at the stations?

I checked out some sites and there doesn't seem to be much discount from buying a multi trip pass.

    Any tips would be appreciated?...

Depending on your age, there will be a variety of interrail tickets available for a few different prices and also for a collection of countries you'd like to visit. I would have alook at their website first. It also depends on how long you will be going. To save money you would be better off buying in advance, but if you want a bit more freedom and spontaneity, you could just buy in the stations as you like as you said, it would be 2-3 places.
