It wears off eventually. Leave it out of the case as much as possible. Fast-Fret on the back of the neck is a good short term solution (or Vaseline or whatever you're having yourself)

The nitro lacquer probably isn't cured fully yet. It takes a good few months.

Nitro finished necks are like that for years until you really wear the finish down a bit. They just keep 'gumming up'.
Have a read of this.. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055386034&highlight=aria
...you'll see where Doc sanded the finish on the neck of his Aria bass and then gave it an oil finish to seal it. Very fine wire-wool would seem to be the way to go.

I tried the fast fret, lemon oil & kaysers string cleaner but it always comes back after about 10 minutes of playing, was thinking of using mer car polish but dont know if it will damage the finish!

FWIW I've read that you should keep any silicone based polishes away from nitro.

For nitro the best polish is Virtuoso. I use it on my LP.

Get the polish & cleaner, they're best used together.

would i need to sand the whole finish off or just a light going over ,like a satin finish? Because it's quite nice apart from that.

Can you buy the virtuoso polish here ?

I was even thinking of getting a car polisher with new wool pads atit & buff the livin daylights out of it to wear the nitro down

No, you can't buy it here although it would be great if some of the shops started carrying it. *hint hint*

read doctor j's thread, man he knows his stuff . I gave it a rub of wire wool just to flatten the finish & i'll see how that goes
thanks for all your advice it was much appreciated! If ye come up with any brainwaves let me know.

Baby powder puts a nice shiney gloss.......or so a wise man once told me.

    hi there

i have used 0000 steel wool on the back of my jazzmaster neck
    (its poly varnish though)

it just mattes down the high gloss very gently,
i have done it lots of times and it glosses up gradually again
i suppose if i do it for years i will eventually get down to the wood

but i dont know if the nitro will be the same,
also the back of my neck is maple finish so
Im not sure if the darker les neck would shoul a whitish effect
from the matting of the varnish

    rgds

    Hi 4

rubbed it down with wire wool for about 5 minutes but the stickyness came back so put baby powder on it until i decide what to do next

I had that same problem with my Eric Johnson strat. It's got a nitro finish too. I got some 'safe-cut' it's like T-Cut but much milder. I gave it a couple of rubs with a damp cloth and some safe-cut and that did the trick. It's also great for small and faint scratches on the guitar. I tend to use regular pledge polish on my EJ and it keeps the neck really smooth, clean and slick like glass. Make sure it's pledge you use though. It hasn't got sulphates in it like some other polishes and sulphates+nitronecks=bubbles...
