Motorcycle helmet as carry on luggage

I'm looking to buy a bike soon and will be buying in the UK. Does any airline have restrictions on carrying motorcycle helmets onto planes?

I don't want to hit the airport and find out I have to check a helmet, as I've seen how they load luggage and I don't want to risk it being damaged.

I'd never make the Stig, maybe his lorry driving cousin...

If you leave the lid in the box it came in then just bring it on as hand luggage. It'll stay protected in the box too.

Never got a box when I bought it. Box would't fit into the hand luggage jig.

Just wanted to know if anyone who works for an airline would have any idea. I'll have to call them before I book.:(

I bought bikes in England like this and had to check the lid in. I even tried to get the lid and chain through security but they were having none of it.

Thanks for the answer. May just buy a cheapo lid in case, don't want to risk my good one getting dropped at some point in transit.
