    Hello all,

Apologies in advance if I am posting out of turn.

Basically I am wondering if there are any boxing clubs, preferably in D2,8,6,10 areas, that would welcome a 29 year old who has never boxed before.

I would love to try something new in terms of training, not sure if I am willing to actually hit the ring at my age though!

I am not afraid of hard training, so apart from being a rubbish boxer I feel I would train as good as the next man.

Any suggestions on clubs that welcome newbies and do a good training session greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

I checked out there website alright before posting here. They are starting training twice weekly in the national stadium the end of this month.
They charge €500 for the course though.
I'm afraid that is well beyond my means at the moment!

    Thanks anyway.

Im not sure many abc's would be willing to take you on to be honest, esp seeing as you have no experience, perhaps if you werent quite so new to boxing it wouldnt be as bad but the fact you would have to be thought the basics from scratch and at your age there aint going to be many takers. Although maybe if you gave us a heads up as to where ya live we could recommend clubs that you could drop into and ask them, sure you have nothing to loose.

Another avenue you could try would be muay thai or mma which are sports that welcome people of most ages regardless if they want to compete or not. Maybe something you could look into.?

D2, D6 etc means nothing to me, where do you live and we will then know where the nearest club is to you and might know a bit more about there policies, MBC on here is involved with Monkstown boxing club and they take adults on as far as i know, Many clubs do take on adults but most of the top 1's are full to the brims and cant accomadate non fighters.

an alternative to the usual clubs (whos as Cowzerp says are full to the brime with young willing fighters) would be UCD, I say once you explain your situation they will allow you to train you can get there contact deatils online, they have good experience trainers but you won't be under as much pressure as you'll be surrounded by other novices

    C.I.E are in Dublin 8
the contact number on the IABA website for them is
    Peter perry 01 4544476

Best thing to do is ring them and ask would you be able to train in there club and say you would be interested in boxing if you get up to any standard!

    Best of luck..

    Hey there W123,

You aint that far away from Smithfield Amateur Boxing Club in Dublin 7 who hold an adult beginners class on Mondays at 8pm and Thursdays at 7pm.

You're more than welcome along. There are quite a few lads who drop down who have never boxed before.

Just drop down on either of those nights or for more information you can call 087 955 2654.

    Ciao
