Hertz charging for full tank?

I'm looking to book car hire in Spain for 10 days July and Hertz (via Ryanair) are coming out the cheapest.

However, I notice on their T&C's that they will be charging extra for a full tank of petrol (up to €75) when I pick up the car.

Previously, they used to ask people to fill up before returning the car, this way they are squeezing out that bit extra unless you return the vehicle practically empty. I may just about use up a full tank as we don't intend touring that much.

Anyone else notice this and would I be better off going with someone else e.g. Budget, who are a few euro extra but only ask for a full tank on return?

They are asking you for a €75 deposit to ensure you will return the vehicle with a full tank not charging you €75 for a tank of fuel.

Your €75 will be refunded to your card when you return the tank full.

Like the name mayo for sam, don't think 2009 will be our year though!!

    Where are you flying into?
Did you try www.carjet.co.uk, as I've booked with them and got a better deal than Hertz.

Not according to this taken from their booking form T&C's:
    Mandatory Fuel Purchase Charge
If your rate is quoted with a mandatory fuel purchase, your vehicle will be provided with a full tank of fuel which will be charged on pick-up.

This charge should amount to approx. EUR 32.00 - EUR 75.00 (excluding tax) depending on the vehicle model and price of fuel at the time of hire and will be in addition to the Approximate Total Price quoted for your rental.
    • For Hertz Advance, this will be applied to all bookings of 5 days or more
    • for all other customers, this will be applied to all bookings of 3 days or more
Please note that you do not need to refuel on return. Rather you should aim to return the vehicle empty because there will be no refund for unused fuel.

I don't see any mention of a refundable deposit.

Urranger - Hertz were over a €100 cheaper for a 10 day hire compared to Carjet.

    Mandatory is it?

I had presumed that a term like that could not exist so surely assumed it was the contrary.

I would run a mile. You will no doubt be paying over the odds for the cost of actually filling a tank of that car.

    Try
