so after browsing this classic forum for some time now I think i may have caught something. its a feeling like I want a Weekend Classic.

budget is always the biggest problem i guess. i have about 1000 euro to spend.

I don't see a lot out there at the moment for this price.

CamperMan has a nice Reliant Scimitar for sale which could clean up nicely.
but he is wayyy up in Leitrim and im in Cork - its a long drive to go up there and back with 2 cars.

    anybody got anything else?

looking for something pre 80 - for tax / ins really.
I like BMW, but these seem to be out of my price range.

An E21 3 series might be your best bet if you want a BMW. They're cheap and good fun to drive. I had one as my daily drive for a couple of years and loved it. Some may scoff but I'd recommend a Triumph Dolomite too. Check out ebay or even the Dolomite club in the UK. You could buy and import a decent enough car for what you're looking to pay and there's a choice of engines to choose from. Good luck!

Ive bought a few cheaper classics on a tight budget. I'd like to think I've learn't from them. You need to double your budget by getting a car for 500 if you only have 1k. There theory is the more you spend in the cost price due to a better codt the less you pay to keep it on the road. E.G my current car cost (to buy)three times the amount of my first. Virtualy the same models, however the later is half the cost to run.

No rust or engine issues etc. When buying start with this, Body codt is the most pressing item.......... engine last. I have blown my engine which I had planned to replace anyway, buit the body is straight and the metal zinc'd. If I've got this wrong somebody set the record straight for us both:confused: The E21 is a cracking car.......but lads they rust like an italian...a 1K car is going to cost more than a 3k car in the long run.

The budget is a bit tight there. Not impossible, but dangerous territory.

They do rust but although not perfect mine was solid, thanks to undersealing by the previous owner. The head gasket blew, pretty common on these cars after 100k or so. One thing to be wary of.
