Can anyone confirm what the regulations are as regards limits on the number of overseas players a province/club can field in the Heineken Cup or Magners League. Is there a limit or is it just down to the buying power of the province/club concerned? Could Leinster :D for instance turn-out a 1st XV consisting of 15 New Zealanders?

There is a limit of 2/3 "foreign" players in a matchday squad. However foreign has a pretty limited scope in rugby. Obviously EU players don't count, and due to the Kolpak ruling neither due Saffers or some Pacific Islanders. Kiwis are actually some of the bigger problems in that regard.

I think it's a lot more likely that Munster could churn out a team of XV New Zealanders now in fairness ;)

Suppose I deserved that! I have nothing against overseas players and, indeed, I hope the Doctor retains his recent form for Leinster in the Semi-Final. :D

    Cheeky :D

OP there are two issues here. The number of foreign players is limited to 5 -6 per province as far as I know (Foreign as in not eligible to play for Ireland). In addition to this there is a committee called the Player Advisory Group(PAG) that much approve of any foreign players that one of the provinces sign.

In terms of the magners league or HEC there is a limit of two foreign players per squad, but in this case a foreign player is defined as a player from outside the EU or Koplak countries. As an example Mafi is considered a foreign player under PAG rules but not under ML or HEC rules.

Whahey! Another inter-provincial pissing contest! Why not enjoy the finer aspects of the game. Or... respect the sport?

Rugby has attracted too many retards for me not to. If they f**k off back to football I'll lighten up. ;)

My OP was a serious question not meant to stir things but, what the hell, thanks for the answers as I was genuinely not sure of the situation. I haven't played football since my first year in junior school in 1966 (!) and I don't watch it (except when Ireland are playing) - I don't know the rules and don't want to as it is a girls game! Now how's that for stirring??:D
