    Hi,

I'm looking at organising a 5 (around 5 days anyway) day cycle for a school charity I'm involved in. Does anyone have any ideas on options we might have in terms of routes? Was thinking possibly Dublin - Westport - Galway - Dublin.

    Thanks.

mizen to malin? maybe too long but if you could do it it has the extra bonus of being a bit of an achievement- getting from one end of the country to the other

I did a nice route Dublin-Galway, obviously you could do it in the other direction on the way back. Back roads all the way.

Would love to complete the Mizen to Malin option but I think the group would struggle.
Dublin-Galway-Dublin looks like a good option. We are going to be doing it over 4/5 days I'd say. Has anyone done something like this before? I mean organising a small fundraising cycle such as this? If so any advice on planning, places to stay etc would be greatly appreciated.

Galway-Dublin-Galway is around 440km the route I was going, you could do it in 4 days 110km/day or 5 days a little under 90km/day. I was trying to do it in one day but gave up 310km in (Athlone on the way back:)) I will try again! Let me know if you want any advice on route, the route out through Tullamore was a lot nicer than back through Athlone.

The group will be pretty inexperienced in terms of long cycles...I'd be the most active and only average a bit over 100km a week. So this will create its own issues. Would still like to add Westport to the trip but some of the lads seem a bit wary of such a long cycle.

Adding Westport would be 100km from Galway. And if you were to go back to Dublin by quiet roads via Roscommon and Mullingar your talking 250km.
