Road trip around Italy!

    Hello all

I am trying to plan a summer holiday for myself and my other half and we were thinking of donig a bit of touring around Italy. I thought about flying into one city and out of another and maybe driving between the two. Looking at online flights I was thinking Ryanair into Venice and Aer Lingus out of Rome.

Can anyone suggest places to visit outside these two major cities? This is also not set in stone, if the distance is too much to drive over the space of two weeks, we might fly in and out of the same place and just travel a bit around the one area... Also, is this a bad idea weather-wise in August? Will it be too hot?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

Another option to do is to get the train from certain cities. Its a great way of getting around italy and its very cheap compared to flying around of the same country. If you fly into venice then you could get the train down to Florence which is an amazing city you could rent a car there and then even drive to pisa which is nice aswell about an hours drive. then you should get the train down to rome. I am planning on doing this in August with the GF going from Milan/Venice/Florence/Rome all by train. In August it does be very hot but believe me you will have a great time. Enjoy
