Sky+ Cables

    Hi

Thinking of upgrading my normal Sky box to Sky+. Does this mean that there will be a 2nd cable running to the back of the new Sky Box coming directly from the dish. I'm asking as I dont have an attic to hide this stuff in and dont particularly want a cable running down the wall...!

As well as that I dont have a telephone at home, using fixed wireless from Irish Broadband. From reading the forums this isnt a problem as I dont have multiroom. Thing is.... is there some way to control the sky+ remotely (via iPhone or otherwise) if I dont have a phone connection. Can it be wired to my network and accessed that way...???

    Cheers

Yes, you will need to have a second cable installed to your sky+ box - each tuner requires its own seperate feed from the LNB on your sky dish.

Sky+ can be set up so that you remotely set recordings alright. It needs to dial out once though to setup, but does not require a phoneline connection after that. You could control the box from another room by means of a sky eye running over a co-ax cable, or if you have a wireless video sender. You could also invest in a slingbox (expensive) which will stream the video out of your sky+ box over a network or broadband connection to anywhere in the world with a fast enough internet connection, and will also allow you to fully control the box (provided you have a sky+ remote wherever you're watching). There is no way of directly networking the sky+ box however.
