So will having a beard affect me getting a job is this economic climate? I've a full beard at the moment but am gonna be job hunting - will it scare potential bosses? will they be jealous?

They shouldn't make a decision based on you having facial hair, but who's to say that they won't. There are still a lot of people out there against facial hair.

One thing that I would say is just make sure its trimmed and tidy before interviews.

Forget the beard, the fact that you've upwards of 13,000 posts on boards might suggest a certain lack of dedication to your work ;)

    PS. great pic :pac:

Depends on the job, Dunnes won't let people grow a beard when you are working there, but if you have one when you get there its supposedly fine. But if its between you and another guy who's clean shaven, whos' to say they wouldn't give it to the other guy? Same with a good few clothese shops and the like. What areas are you looking to work in? Nerd industries practically expect a beard (and questionable odour, but that's a separate topic :pac:)

They shouldn't stop you just because you have a beard. I managed to get a job in Tesco's and a cinema with a goatee, which grew to about 4inches, and nothing was said. I just cut it nice and tidy for the interviews, and relatively tidy after I got the job.

Is it beards or moustaches that indicate when you are an evil twin from a parallel dimension? :pac:

It'll go against you if you're going for a food-preparation job, but other than that, you'll be okay. As said above, ensure it's neat, and it won't go against you.

if you go to interview, answer all questions correctly, are a perfect candidate, they have to hire you - its some sort of law.
but that would only be in certain jobs e.g. doctor, which i dont know if you are such

No, they don't. The point being that they do not have to disclose what goes on in their heads, and as such can decide whatever they want. :(

I have the same concerns. I started growing my beard while unemployed - i didn't get interviews so couldn't check but anyway I will never know. Especially when the interviewer/s is/are women i think this could be a factor. I have seen so many guys with quite bad kept beard that I wouldn't hire them. If only we can get women or managers here to answer that question...

I'm starting a new job in January in Dubai... The new boss had a running commentary on the progress of my beard throughout the interview process... I work in a creative industry though and have it trimmed every week to keep it tidy.

It shouldn't be a problem once you are well presented.
