Engagement Rings

    Hey Guys

Decided a while ago to pop the question to my girlfriend but am unsure how to go about it in relation to the ring. I've been running it over back and forth in my head now. Was planning on picking up a ring in a jewellers (prob spend couple hundred euros)for asking the question and then (if she says yes of course) going together to O'Connors in Harold's Cross to get one made.

Just looking for opinions on it really. I'd like her to have a ring she wanted etc.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

    Thank you.

You are obviously spending a few quid on the ring. My advice (and speaking from experience) would be to spend the money planned on the 'dummy' ring on trip to NYC. The cost of engagement rings in New York is so much cheaper than anything over here and you will cover all costs and still save a few quid by buying over there. Your g/f will have a memorable experience and a massive rock on her finger. I could not believe the value to be had.

hey punchestown. thanks for that. yeah i thought of going to NY or Belgium but I know theres somewhere in ireland she like to be proposed to 9sentimental reasons) so that ruled that out!!! Thanks for the tip though. she could be awkward and still want the trip to NY too...:)

You said you were gonna spend a few hundred on a ring to propose with and then pick out the proper one with her later ... don't bother wasting your money on a ring that will only be used as a prop! It'd be better to just propose and then go out and buy the ring and put that couple of hundred into the real engagement ring fund! :)

If you're going to use a prop ring, then don't waste a few hundred euro on one. Get something less than €100 with zircons or whatever. Get something which she might get a bit of use out of in future - i.e. something that doesn't look like an engagement ring.
