    Hi,

As the title suggests I am just experiencing my second episode of gout. I'm only 27 and had my first attack a year ago. (it affects my left foot big toe) I'm just wondering is there anyone out there with this horrible condition. It's agony... I had to take today and yesterday off work because the pain is unreal and I can't even put socks on. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow. It's utterly depressing. Not many people seem to understand just how bad it is. It's not something you can put a bandage on and use crutches its like having really really bad toothache. I have taken nuerofen plus, prescription pain killers and none of them can even touch the pain. Sh*t this is depressing...

    BOG

You may want to change you diet if you are getting gout.

Eat less rich foods, more greens and exercise more.

I have a friend who gets bouts of that a lot - and it's really horrible. Best get advice from your doctor too. (and less rich foods)

I suffer from it OP. Make sure you go to the doctor when you are in severe pain - A & E if you have to, as it is caused by raised levels of uric acid in the blood. Only a blood test will confirm it. If you go when it isn't too bad probably won't prescribe you the correct medication as the levels will be low.

Happened to me. Ended up in casualty it was that bad. Got the correct prescription and some decent pain killers and that evening I wasn't too bad.

Now if I feel it coming on (hasn't happened in a while, touch wood) I take one of the tablets and it dissipates.

Used to happen to a family member, was from a combination of rich food and alcohol.
He got medicine off the doctor - similar to what Insurgent describes - would take it if he felt it coming on.

Lifestyle and diet change should help a lot - go to GP and also ask to see a dietician.

What drugs did you get prescribed? Last time I went to the doctor he gave me nothing and it went away by itself after a while but I can't deal with this pain again. I knocked my foot a few hours ago and i thought I was going to pass out with the pain.

Is there anything around the house that could give any sort of relief until I can get to the doctor? Im going to start overdosing on painkillers soon.....

Watch out with those painkillers - some can be hard on the stomach. Get to your doctor ASAP to get the right medication to tackle the problem.

I know a guy who suffered from gout - he used to be in agony at times. He was also given advice on his diet - keep rich foods and alcohol to a minimum. As he was told : Gout - the disease of kings and the king of diseases........

If you can't get to the dr this evening then I suggest you go to your chemist for advice and do not EXCEED the recemended dose on any medications.
