Pre-gym snack

At the moment I go to the gym in the evenings, around 2 hours after my dinner - it's usually close to 9pm by the time I get there. I find that at this stage of the evening I'm pretty tired, and I know I'm not getting my best out of my workout. Also as the gym closes at 10pm they're usually hurrying me along if I am on a roll!

I've decided that I'm going to try to go on my way home from work from now on, and have my dinner afterwards. However at the moment when I get home from work I am nearly weak with the hunger (I have breakfast at 6am, a mid-morning snack, and lunch at 1pm).

I need ideas for a snack I can eat that will keep me going through my workout and until I have my evening meal. I'm a girl, with no weight to lose, doing a mixture of cardio and weights to stay fit and toned. I want something healthy and inexpensive that doesn't need refridgeration. Also how long before I start my workout should I eat this snack?

    Thanks!

Have a mid afternoon snack. Fruit and nuts maybe. Something like that. Some protein for sure. I'd suggest a banana (or two maybe) an hour before the gym.
