Theres so many to choose from especially with all the horror movies around. One of my top ones is still the old classic in Alien were crewman Kane dies at dinner.Another good one is wallaces death in Braveheart . As for the death of the band in Dusk till Dawn its a classic.Anyone got any good ones that they felt were over the top?.

worst for me was Saw III, when that guy was in that device that twisted each of his limbs one by one until finally twisting his head. The exploding and splintering bones was just too much. Haven't watched a Saw movie since that, and have no interest to.

Movie deaths are less fun than they used to be - these days they tend to the graphic sadistic rather than amusingly clever.

cant remember the name of the movie, but glenn close finally being finished off when her <corpse> jumps from the bathwater she was supposedly drowned in was a classic!:)

I thought the first film was bad, but final destination 2 was on tv and i must say its got loads of cool/funny death scenes. :pac:

guy gets cut into pieces by flying fence wire.
guy gets flattened by pane of glass.
kid explodes at barbeque, arm lands in front of mother.
and the whole opening scene pile up is well done.

You can't beat Seven for horrifyingly gruesom deaths IMO but the real classic for me is Quint in Jaws

The new Punisher movie has some awesome deaths, infact its the only thing the movie has going for it. Face getting caved in with leg of chair, fist also, and plenty of gruesome headshots ;D

The Indian dude getting squashed in Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Or the german dude with glasses melting in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Or the the german boxer dude getting whacked by the aeroplane propellers in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Well, it was gruesome all right, though since the sin was Lust, it was never going to be clever, was it?

I thought the Vanity death more ingenious:
give a beautiful model a choice: call for help but live with a gruesomely scarred face for life... or kill herself. She chose the latter, of course, since Vanity was her sin.

Then there's Kill Bill, with several interesting demises, such as that of Gogo, or Budd: we don't see whether Elle Driver )Daryl Hannah) actually dies, but I don't think she would want to live after what The Bride did to her. :(

The death of Kitano in Battle Royale was amusing:
shot several times, but doesn't seem to notice, and still has time to answer the phone and speak to his wife before dying
    .

I have seen some truly gory deaths on screen, but (thankfully) tend to forget the details...

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

That toxic waste death from Robocop was pretty grusome.

Personally, and maybe an odd choice here, but i found the knife death scene near the end of Saving Private Ryan pretty gruesome. And not cause there was any blood or over the top goreyness but for exactly the opposite reason, it seemed incredibly real and that made it all the more horrible for me.
For those who might not remember it, its the bit where the german soldier and the jewish guy's guns jam and they fight hand to hand until the slow...slow..knife finish....nasty!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭savemejebus

Have to agree there, You could almost feel the pain of the knife slowly going in,
along those lines you could add wade's(medic) death, you dont actually see him get hit but the wounds just look so painfull,ie:when they wipped away the blood it just kept coming out, and he seemed to be in 'real' pain

Oddly enough the James Bond movie "Licence to Kill" had a few good ones in it.
    1) Fella gets exploded in a repressurisation chamber with a bunch of cash.
    2) Another guy (Felix?) is fed to hungry sharks
    3) Benecio Del Toro is thrown into a cocaine grinder.

I thought the car crash death scene in Deathproof was pretty amusing.

    These are pretty funny.

    This is fairly gruesome.

That was meant to be the "crucifixion" scene so that we would identify with the hero more given that he isn't given much character background in the first 25 minutes. Robocop is meant to be an American Jesus according to Verhoven. The steal mill scene where he's walking on water is meant to suggest this.

Also the coolest film ever made!

    NSFW

Zombie Flesh Eaters eyeball scene. While it does look a bit cheesey now it should be noted its almost 30 years old.Fulci is the king of eyeball related shenanigans.

The following scene is from Nick Palumbos Murder Set Pieces.I know the thread title is favourite gruesome scenes. Its not that its one of my favourites per se but it stands out in my mind because Id never seen anything like it before and havnt since. While its not particularly graphic or gruesome it kind of shocked me and gave me a little bit of faith that horror movies can still get a reaction out of me.

I have loads more that I will try and find.
