HP Motherboard Failure

Hi there, I'm new to this particular forum but had an experience recently that people should probably know about if it affects them.

I have a 9000 series HP laptop which randomly died last Thursday after no problems to that point over two years of fairly high use. The HP warranty was out but I had an extra years warranty with Hardly Normal so I figured - manufacturers fault --> fix it for free.

So I went in to HN, explained the problem, that the HDDs were grand as I was able to retreive my data, that the memory modules and every other thing suggested by the HP trouble shooting guide was fine and it was agreed that the probable fault was motherboard failure.

So in dealing with me the guy goes in the back of the store and comes out a few mins later with a sheet of paper with the details of a Special HP Extended Warranty on 6000 and 9000 series laptops with motherboard failure. It's a known fault and HP are playing it cool and not issuing a recall wich it really probably should.

By the spread of serial numbers affected there's probably thousands of laptops waiting to brick themselves so if you happen to have the same thing happen to you and you're out of regular warranty don't give up straight away, you might get it sorted for free yet.
