quick passport question for travelling to america

fying saturday week and checked my mothers passport today.its not the most up to date type in that it doesnt have the hologram and her details are on the back inside cover rather than on a plastic page like my own(think its called a biometric passport?).im convinced she needs a new one but does anyone know for sure.it was…

mine was issued on nov 2002 and i've been there about 8 times since. the picture is at the back also.

You just need to have a machine readable one. At the bottom of the picture page there will be a load of:

X<<<x12345<<<<<<NAME<<<<<<BLAHBLAHBLAH<<<<<<

If you have that then you are good to go.
