I'm applying for some internships and jobs in Europe (primarily Brussels). Would I be better off using a standard 'Irish' CV or using a Europass CV?

that's a good question alright. To be honest I would use a good Word template rather then the Europass one's. I work in recruitment here in Ireland and I hate getting those Europass one's, they look terrible! I tell people all the time to change their CV. I'd stick to a good template that presents your skills well.

I agree, Europass CVs are not easy to read at all, you'd be better off with a standard CV, just make sure it has nice clean layout.

Has anyone ever used a Europass CV before?

Do I really need to put a picture in?

also do they need copies of my degrees etc?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Europass asks for a photo because a lot of European countries would expect that as standard. It's also the norm to send all your documents (references, certs etc) in some countries. It's a bit unusual to do that here though, so it's up to you whether or not to add these.

Having said that, I wouldn't recommend using Europass. As other people have already mentioned, the format isn't the easiest to read. A lot of recruitment systems mess up the formatting on them when they get uploaded which makes it even worse. Also it doesn't show anything about the applicant's ability to format and edit documents - what it does show is that they put in the minimal amount of effort on that front, which can't be a good thing :(

The problem is the job I'm applying for specifically asks for it
