Easton Road Wheels

    Hey all,

Lokking for a bit of advice here, bought these wheels in February of last year from Chain Reaction (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=26446).
Anyway, I was very happy with them up to about a month when I started to notice a knocking noise coming from the bottom bracket or so I thought - it only became apparent going uphill when there was pressure on the chain. I got a new bottom bracket fitted at the lbs(not actually local but the nearest to me) but the problem persisted. The problem continued intermittenly so I changed the Look pedals as a cycling friend of mine pointed out that there was some movement in one of the pedals and the pedals were about six years old. Still the problem was not solved. As a result, I decided to bring it back to the lbs, well actually my better half did as I was working. In the meantime, I was out for a spin on Friday evening with a friend and cycling down a hill over a rough section of road I heard a load bang - a spoke in the front wheel had snapped so my spin was over. The guy in the shop fixes the front spoke and opens up the back wheel - he basically reckons that the back wheel is frigged, he told herself that water had got in, the bearings were all rusted and the cassette was rubbing into the free hub. In his opinion, the wheel was not safe and I ended up buying a pair of Mavic Aksium's of him.
Should I get back on to Chain Reaction or is there any point ?
    Cheers.

The two reviews on that link aren't exactly glowing. CRC may be aware the wheels are not living up to expectations, so it won't do any harm to ring them up and ask them what they can do.

I would, they are not exactly cheap wheels. Many wheels come with a 2-year warranty (mine do) - I would check with Easton on that one. CRC are generally quite reasonable with warranty in my experience. If it is a one year warranty not a lot you can do though.

Not my experience. I've given up buying big ticket items from them as a result.

    Biker Joe,
Bike was hanging up probably from end of October to beginning of January. They would have seen plenty of rain espacially earlier this year, and yes I was riding these wheels only. Although, they have never been raced and would only have maybe 3000 to 4000 thousand km on them.
