Just wondering if this ever happened to anyone else ...

Last week I was woken up by my heart. It was pounding really hard, I thought it was going to come out thru my chest. After a few mins it stopped and I eventually went back to sleep.

I dont want medical advise, just want to hear from anyone else that might have had this event ?

Only time I can think of something similar is waking up from a dream/nightmare whereby it was intense thus your heart was going ninety. If you're worried go to your GP.

I've had that sort of thing happen to me frequently, I've been to the doctor and they insist there's nothing wrong with my heart ... dunno what the cause of it is, but like star-pants says it might have been a dream.

Happened to a mate of mine recently. He was so worried he got up at all hours and took a taxi to A&E, turns out he had damaged a muscle in his chest and it was spasming or something. He was convinced it was his heart.

this may happen if you have sleep apnea or snore heavily - if it happens again id get checked

I've had that happen to me but I've also had it happen while I'm awake:

Not the funnest when it's happening.

If its worrying you id say get it checked out! I was getting strong palpitations a while ago so got it checked out, turned out to be nothing too serious but still, yours might be a different case. Get it checked if it happens again just in case.
Also I was told to stay away from stimulants, eg. red bull, lucozade, all energy drinks really. then coffee and smoking too.

I also had a problem like that, my heart was beating like it was trying to escape out of my chest. It could happen at anytime without any warning and the worst thing was I never got it checked out. I put it down to anxiety, panic attacks. Eventually I went to a doctor and it turned out to be Atrial Fibrillation.

    You only have one heart!!!

Go to a GP even if they tell you its nothing its money well spent and ease of mind.

It happened me one morning aswell, I put it down to the €100 worth of vodka and redbull i had being drinking the day and night before!

Fealt like it took a month for my heart to fully recover, that redbull is dangerous stuff.

If it is worrying you, I would see a doctor, just to be sure. Closed.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
