    Hey!
I had a one night stand there last night and I missed one pill mid pack last week..we didn't use anything... I was just wondering if anyone thought I might need the MAP...
I was just thinking that I was safe enough seem as it was only one pill that was missed but I'm still slightly doubting myself...Anyone else been in a similar situation??
Amd if I were to go and get the MAP where do I go apart from my GP because I'm a GMS patient and poor student and I don't think I could afford the consultation fees ect...
    Any help/advice is much appreciated..Thanks!

I think there's a family planning center on Dame St, if you're in Dublin. Try a quick Google search to find somewhere close by; these places can offer MAP and I think they're a little cheaper. What about the doctor in your college?

This is the number for the ifpa pregnacy helpline (1850 49 50 51)
A nurse will talk through the case with you and they will see you as a gms patient.

Also as you did not have protected sex you should consider getting an sti screening.
Hiv will shorten your life considerably, some sti can't be treated and some which can be
but which are left untreated can cause fertility problems for you.

So please get yourself checked out asap.

I believe it takes 7 days of correct pill taking to build up to full protection. I'd definitely seek advice from a family planning centre and take the morning after pill if necessary. And I don't mean to preach but it's absolute insanity to have an unprotected one night stand in this day and age. I'd get tested as soon as possible - colleges usually have STD clinics for just a small charge, 20 euro or so.

I'm afraid the doctor in college isn't an option i'm afraid...

Go and get the MAP. You cant be too careful if you've missed a pill.

Why isn't it an option? If it really isn't, then ring your nearest family planning clinic or just go to a doctor. 50 euro is a lot less cost/hassle than getting an abortion or raising a child, it has to be said!

If you miss a pill/are ill/on antibiotics, you are not protected for the next 7 days and must use other protection.

So in answer to you question, yes, you most definitely need the morning after pill. It is most effective the sooner you take it after the event so I would recommend it you get it pdq.

It's easy for one to say go here, go there...you need this, you need that...
In the end up I finally went and got sorted (reluctantly might I add!)
As for getting a check done, I think I am best to leave it for a few weeks... I'm not that worried, the MAP was my main concern.... Glad now that it's all sorted...a bit of a relief. Thanks for all the advice and comments...

I'm sorry to be critical but it's not all sorted, you could have picked up anyone of several STI's, some of which are incurable, and some of which may have a long term impact on your sexual and reproductive health.

Your post sounds a little bit casual in that regard, if I were you I'd be making getting an STI check a priority, there is a stickied thread on the subject at the top of this forum.

And you may want to think about carrying condoms with you in the future..

erm...you asked???and yeah it is easy for some posters to say go and get it because some of us have been there before and know the importance of getting it sorted.

That's because it IS easy for responsible, mature adults who have their priorities in order. The small hassle and expense of seeing a doctor is a lot less than going for an abortion or raising a child for 18 years! And buying a pack of condoms is even cheaper and easier still! I can't believe how blase you seem about this. It's far from sorted. The MAP isn't 100% effective and you could have picked up one or more incurable STI's. Paranoia isn't healthy but neither is carelessness.
