Computer crashing and I don't know why...

Hey, so for some reason my computer has started crashing a lot lately. This ONLY happens when I'm extracting stuff (generally .rar files) or copying stuff over to USB devices and what-not.

I've done this on 2 or 3 hard drives on my computer so I don't think they're the cause, I can't really understand what's going on, because games, videos etc work fine.

    Any suggestions?

By crashing do you mean freezing up or shutting down?
    OS?
    Memory free?

Completely freezing. I've had these problems before but they used to occur during high CPU usages (games etc), and they were Memory problems. I can't understand why games work fine now and it only causes problems when copying etc

You can defragment and run a disk check to see if certain sectors are damaged
