    Hi all,

Has anyone been asked/made to sign new contracts in work for reasons such as "pay freeze until year x", increased/decreased work hours etc

We have one that requires small changes to make the irish branch of a multinational company more competitive. The trouble is, the cost per person will still be at least twice that of our eastern european cost centre, who it is widely believed are being groomed for our jobs.

Recession or no recession, this has been on the cards for some time. I feel like the move is an inevitable one, so why make peoples lives even more miserable with these contracts?

Im all for helping out in these tough times and im "thankful to have a job", but it seems so pointless now, like rubbing salt in etc

Anyways, can anyone else share their experiences of this

What happens if you don't sign the (new) contract ? I'd imagine there's some clause in there allowing them to terminate employment.

As for me, well we've had our terms of contract changed twice in the last year without consultation or agreement or a new contract, just told that's it from now on.

Yes i guess that employers are in a dreamboat situation these days. A case of "do what we say or your fired". My previous criticism of Unions has since changed - i joined SIPTU recently. Not that they can save the day Superted-style or anything, but just to keep everything nice and legal, cover backsides etc

The altertative i would guess is to go back to the negotiation table. Perhaps actually "engage" with the employees. We do know that times are bad and all do want help to keep the place afloat - its in everyones interests. I just feel that the actions of my and iMax's employer stink of draconian times and dictatorship *dickiness.

    *Im having a poor-grammar Monday :(

that's highly illegal is it not? a contract can not be changed unless both parties agree. if as you say you haven't received a copy of the new contract then how could you sign it, and if you didn't sign it it's not legally binding.
