    Ugly as sin.

    Looks good

Looks like the pseudo hatchback design is the new norm for saloon cars nowadays (See new BMW 5 series).

Fails in the looks department especially the rear, actually a 928 looks better and it's a 30 plus year old design.
No doubt it makes up for it almost every other way.

Pseudo = FALSE or PRETENDING TO BE SOMETHING IT'S NOT.

So what's false about the Porsche?

Nothing is as bad as that, your so right there except the X6 from BMW.

Haha, you are right with the X6; by the way, I haven't seen that thing in real life (that's even better for me).

Looks like a 911 that's eaten a few too many pies. A bit bigger in the middle, and with a huge ****ing arse on the end of it.

Inside though, that's a different story.

Its growing on me, like the chunky and grown up styling. The ass and general rear quarter is mega off-putting though.

He didnt say it was a pseudo Porsche, he said its a pseudo hatchback type design, which I agree with, as its not a hatchback given its a 4 door saloon designed not to look like a saloon... Also WHY ARE WE SHOUTING?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,782 ✭✭✭Damien360

The side profile is nice but jesus the rear is awful. That rear fat ass.

Of course he did'nt say it was a pseudo Porsche, he said it was a pseudo hatchback which it is clearly not, it's a hatchback as the car is a two box design rather than a three box design which booted cars are.

Just re-read the artical in CAR on it. By all accounts it's very good and Porsche want it to compete with S Class & 7 Series.

Anyone think the rear looks like the Chrysler crossfire. Its a pity because the front looks great

Bog standard unimaginative Porsche design in a category they don't understand. Leave the performance saloons to Maserati and BMW lads, ye haven't learnt a thing from the awful Cayenne.

Except how to jump into a niche completely unrelated to sports cars and make a shedload more money than you could if you stuck to sports cars alone.

Ok, so they're talented at making money and cars that unimaginative people with no taste buy. Where do I send the medal?

They don't need a medal, they are the world's most successful car company.

Fianna Fail is Ireland's most successful political party. Walmart is the world's most successful company. Bill Gates in the world's most successful man. They all have about the same level of taste and imagination as Porsche.
    • Porsche: The Fianna Fail of carmaking.
    • Porsche: The Walmart of carmaking.
    • Porsche: The Bill Gates of carmaking.
I can't see that on a billboard anytime soon! :)

Porsche was cool 20 years ago. On the design front, they're about as innovative as Brian Cowen.

I think you've taken things slightly out of context. :)

I would agree that there may seem to be a lack of innovation about Porsche mainstream products but they pander to the market (928 is a prime example) and who can blame they them especically when the company is run by an accountant.

But they are trying to innovate from the one card trick 911 to mid engined cars, super 4x4's and now super saloons. Being a preimum brand automatically limits they products and market.

As for pure engineering talent I'd say it's one of the very best in the world and I think this is born out in their products, like them or not.

I really really like it, esp the rear, looks nothing like as ugly as a cayenne.

If it wasnt for all the wrong numbers i seem to be picking every week I'd have one.

Neither Porsche, nor the other companies (you cant group a Political party with business, its illogical) mentioned are meant to be cool, edgy or represent alternative choices. They are in the business of making massively commercially successful products that appeal to the mass market. Mass market simply means most people. Just cos you dont like Windows or Porsche doesnt mean they are bad or crap, it means you arent in their target demographic. So you may as well quit making snipes, its not for you.

Not sniping Matt Simis, simply observing. The Panthing is an unimaginative, ugly car, and I'm expounding on the background unimaginativity - if that's a word - of Porsche. On financial success, they're unarguably one of the best. I just don't consider that the main factor in the automotive world, and I don't understand it as an argument.

I'm surprised you don't think Porsches are meant to be cool btw. I would have thought that was the whole point, in the eyes of a buyer.

Well the reality is that if they don't make money they can't invest in new products or carry out R&D and this takes massive investment.

As for cool, that's subjective. The only uncool car in Porsche's line up is the ugly Cayenne imo. But I would agree they could have done better with this saloon in the looks department, still would'nt put me off buying one (dream).

I think it is ungainly, but Porsche is no bodys fool...

it looks like a 911 front the front, which buyers will want
the inside looks fantastic, which buyers will want
and the boot will take your golf clubs and suitcases, which buyers will want.

It's going to steal sales from big BMW's and Mercs to a lesser extent for sure.

Something good could come out of this monstrosity yet:

Rumormill: Porsche reconsidering Panamera-based 928 successor?

The 928 was a wonderful car, it's actually one of my saved searches on eBay.

(I'd like a 959 and an original Turbo too please. But then, doesn't everybody?)

It would make a lot of sense for Porsche to produce a coupe version of the Panamera as I'd presume they would use the chassis, running gear etc and change the body from the A pillar back carrying out a weight reduction in the process plus a shorter chassic, suspension, gearing etc.

Hope they do as I'm a big time fan of the old 928 but hope they improve on the looks of the Panamera in the process.
