Advice needed on Buying and Selling Guitars

I'm in the market for a guitar, perhaps two. I want an acoustic-electric for playing stuff like acoustic versions of QOTSA songs. Divine comedy, chilis. Stuff like that. I've been thinking about a Maton, or a Gibson, but I'd like some advice. I want to spend in between €500 and €800.

Where should I look to buy a guitar. I'm talking websites that deliver to Ireland and offer good value. Or a second hand guitar board along the same lines, but offering even better value.

I have a Fender Mexican Strat. Bought at a time when everyone needed an electric guitar in 2003. Mint condition. I see on ebay they're going for about 250-350. I bought it new for 680, along with an amp for 300. Fender 65w. I was hoping its value wouldn't have depreciated 50% over time. Where should I look to sell the guitar? Buy and sell doesn't quite do it for me to be honest

I wouldn't recomend buying acoustics online, you'll never know what will turn up on your doorstep. Acoustics vary waaaaay too much from guitar to guitar, you have to try one out in person before buying. I'd say just hit up all your local guitar stores and try *every* acoustic they have. See what you like the best! :).

Takamine do have some very nice models in that price range though, if you're looking for brands.

As for the strat, i'd recomend adverts.ie http://www.adverts.ie/showcat.php?cat=16

It's the boards.ie sister site, like an online version of buy and sell (but better :D).

And of course, read the rules/charters before posting an advert and dont do anything silly :).

I'm afraid that the first step that you have to take when buying and selling instruments in Ireland is to throw Irish prices out the window.

These days the majority of musicians will go searching for cheaper prices online. And it's so, so easy to find them.

Just as an aside, I personally find it *incredibly* annoying when people quote the Irish price of an instrument at you when selling it second hand in a classified listing. No one cares - they're looking for the cheapest price possible.
