    What are our rights here in Ireland in relation to searches and seizures by the Gardaí?

    For example, do the Gardaí need a warrant to search your vehicle at a checkpoint? Do they have to arrest you before searching your belongings?

    No, there is several pieces of legislation at the disposal of members.

    Section 8 Criminal Law Act, 76 - Section 30 Offences Against the state Act 1939 - Criminal Justice Act 2006 (fireworks/explosives)

    The most common used is Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act 1977/84 for both the vehicle and yourself. There are a lot more, too much to write out here.

    Reasonable suspision is need in this case.
