I'm getting the ferry from Dublin and the train to london. But the ferry gets in after the last train is gone to london. Can anybody advise on a plan of action for holyhead?

If you have to stay in Holyhead there is a nice enough hotel just outside the town. The Treddaur Bay or something like that. Otherwise there are a couple of OK B&Bs around the town, in that they'll do for one night. To the best of my knowledge there is a nightclub but I've never been so I can't rate it. As for pubs most are OK they are like any pubs in Irish towns, just watch out for darts and slots.

Depite all that and the bad press Holyhead often gets the people are friendly enough and you probably won't get any grief.

If you are just looking for somewhere to crash for a few hours between ferry and train then there is a travelodge less than 5 minutes from the train/ferry terminal.

It is a complete disgrace that there is no longer a rail connection for the overnight ferry services, these connections have systematically been destroyed over the last few years with long waits and trains bizarrely timed with huge amounts of extra running time so they (on paper) were too late to connect.

Fair enough, there is only a fraction of the demand there once was when 1500+ seats were provided on up to 4 seperate trains every night but there was still a consistent flow using these services.

Meanwhile the Welsh government are spending thousands a week funding a "premium" service from Holyhead to Cardiff with first class and on-board chefs whose primary function appears to be transporting a handful of Welsh Assembly members to and from Parliament.

With the cost of accomodation it is not going to be a cheap way of getting to London, my advice get a plane or if you really want to go by ferry use Bus Eireann/Eurolines instead.
