Anybody any idea where I could see it this weekend? Doesnt seem to be on the tele:(

Should be a good race though. It will be interesting to see what sort of time Ryan Hall can run, he looks in great shape.

Good luck to anybody running in the race as well:)

Setanta covered it last year, but don't seem to be doing so this year. There's a highlights programme on the following day on one of the US sports channels that is on the listing on NTL, but I don't subscribe to.

Presume you saw the videos of Ryan Hall on Flotrack. Nice touch the way he wouldn't cross the marathon finish line on the training run on the route.

Don't think hall has the ability to beat Cheruiyot (the defending champion one). Cheruiyot is a grade A marathon runner and probably has a 2.05 in him on a quick course.

Kara Goucher has it in her to win the womens. It is drastically weaker field to London and if she produces the performance that it looks like she is capable of, she will win.

I think you could say the same about Hall though. He ran 2:06:17 in London last year (only his third marathon)

He doesnt have the experience of Cheruiyot and Cheruiyots record at Boston is great but at 9-2 he could be worth a bet.

Interesting Gushy article on Ryan Hall in the build-up to the marathon on USAToday. Ryan has the best PB (2:06:17) of the sub 2:08 runners, but that was posted in London.

    There's a letsrun preview at
    http://www.letsrun.com/2009/bostonw0418.php

There's an interview with Kara Goucher where she talks about throwing up when she's running - "I've learned to just throw up and keep running" - quality.

So this should start around 2:30 pm Irish time then?

It used to start 12 Boston time which would be 5 Irish time, could well have changed though. Isn't TBF'er doing it too?

They changed the start time 3 years ago to 10 am local time for the first wave, 10:30 for the second. The elite ladies leave a few minutes earlier.

I'm indeed doing it tomorrow (Monday), just sitting in a nice house in Waltham, three miles from Heartbreak Hill :).

Weather forecast for tomorrow is 10C, cloudy (great) and 20mph head wind (oh sh..)

Best of luck tomorrow. If you havn't done Boston before, mile 11 is very nice. Be prepared for the college girls.:)

+1. I have done Boston once and at the ten mile mark I could hear a din of noise in the distance. As we got about 400 metres from the 11 mile mark an army guy who was running turned to me and said (in words I will never forget) "hold onto your balls and make sure you don't blow your muck". It was great advice :D It's very easy to go a bit mad when the ladies of wellesley college want a kiss :)

Have a great race. I checked the weather myself earlier and it looks great.

Sounds good , I think i've just added Boston to my very small list of marathons I want to do..

The elite women did the first mile in 6:28 - I'd have a chance there...and my moobs are coming along nicely!

great stuff. First 10km is practically downhill and can be very easy to go off too hard. That's a great split. I love these tracking sites

    still on target at 15km

By the same token, congestion will ease the further in he gets so I'm not worried yet.

Africans starting to show their dominance now in the mens race. Hall slipping back.

The Runners World minute-by-minute update is great - easiest way to follow it in work!

Hall is going to have to work hard to get back into this one.

TFB well ahead of Bill Rodgers! ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,238 ✭✭✭Abhainn

1:29:38 13.1 miles. Hopefully first half was in 3rd gear. Maybe just easing in 4th gear now. Conditions perfect.

    Better than watching on TV

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,558 ✭✭✭Peckham

TBF giving us a lesson in perfect pacing here. Hopefully his strong training will mean he can push through the second half easily.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,395 ✭✭✭eliwallach

He's on target for 3:00.46 at current pace.
    Come on TFB!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,365 ✭✭✭hunnymonster

He must be about to hit the hills. They're not horrendous but after the gentle slope downwards at the start they can hurt. Come on T.

Great finish to womens race.. lead changed hands 3 or 4 times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,841 ✭✭✭Running Bing

Great finish to the ladies race.

    1. Kosgei
    2. Tunei
    3. Goucher

Another pretty impressive performance by Goucher tbh...Id be surprised if she doesnt win Boston or NY at some stage. She looks gutted to have come third.

Tunei collapsed on the ground and she's still down. Absolute exhaustion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 167 ✭✭RICHIE-RICH

Just watched the womens finish. 3 of them in with a shout with less than half mile to go and a sprint finish - first and second only one second apart and jostling for the podium. Gretat stuff. American Kara Goucher(?) in tears- leading most of race - finished third. Girl who came second being stretchered off after collapsing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,841 ✭✭✭Running Bing

Ryan Hall looks to be shooting along now. Looked completely out of it at one stage. He's in 3rd now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,841 ✭✭✭Running Bing

    1. Merga
    2. Rono
    3. Hall

Two podiums for the Americans. I suppose thats something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,841 ✭✭✭Running Bing

Merga looks like he just completed a 2 mile warmup jog:cool:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,558 ✭✭✭Peckham

...and there were the American running sources making us think Hall was untouchable in this race.

I reckon they'll be disappointed with two 3rd places, they were expecting to win one, if not both races.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭RJC

At 3:03 pace at the moment for 30K. In cork last year the last 7 miles were the fastest.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,096 ✭✭✭--amadeus--

He's lost teh guts of 2 mins off his 5k time in that last split, down from 4:23/km between 20 and 25 (which is still outside sub 3 pace) to now 4:45/km from 25 to 30. Those hills must be a killer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭RJC

Agree. Outside of the Dublin 08 pace. The course record is 2:07 so not as fast as the other majors. A 2:08:40 win show that the headwind must be a factor (for mortals)
