    Hey,
Lately I'm getting very tempted to take up running now for the summer seeing as i wont be doing anything else. Was planning on doing a marathon but have backed away from this at least for the meantime.
At the moment i am fairly fit and slim. For the summer i wanted to try and gain weight and muscle but lately i think id prefer to just get out running.

Is it possible to still gain weight even if i was running. I mean im 5'10 and about 10 stone. To gain weight i would want to be eating bout 3500 cals a day. If i was running i dont know if i could bump up the cals much more as its hard enough as it is.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

I think you would need to be lifting pretty heavy too.

Im not going to lie it would probably be very difficult and I think you would really have to make a choice between committing to the running or focusing more on the lifting and doing a bit of running on the side.

Id say get into the shakes though (if you not already). A few scoops of Whey, handful of oats, honey, peanut butter, milk, a banana all into a blender. Absolutely delicious and you can down a few of these a day...you'd be putting on the weight in no time:D

That's a bit of a curve ball nellocon - a change from people wanting to lose weight. Why would you want to do that, unless you feel that you're unhealthily slim?

You may well find that a bit of running will actually gain you a bit of muscle weight anyway. And the Babybing shake sounds pretty good too - must try it.

eat plenty of chinese amd drink lots of beer at the weekend:pac:, it made me go from 9 and half stone at 18 to 12 and half stone at 24. losing all the weight is now the problem!!

seriously tho i was like you and couldnt put on weight for years, be thankful you cant. i drank egg nog every morning rocky style and that put the pounds on. but be warned as what happened me, if you stop lifting weights and training it will all soon turn to fat.

my advice is stay as you are enjoy the running do a little bit of weights and tone up rather than becoming 'buff'.

    Hey guys,
Yep im already on serious mass milkshakes which have around 1000 cals in a go. Just started on these so will have to see how i get on, i know there prob alot of sugar in these like.

Im not unhealthily skinny, but i have always been skinny and i would like to just put on weight.

Its a bit of a dilemma... The running might well be taking a back seat (and i just bought a pair of vomeros 4 )

You won't really gain weight if you get into the running, you would have to choose one or the other. If you increase calories and lift heavy and often you could easily gain 2 stone in 6-9 months. Having the extra muscle will burn the fat off for you as well.

Its all down to what your into really, personally I think 12 stone with a bit of muscle at your height looks alot better than 10 stone but maybe you disagree or maybe you'd rather run for the enjoyment of it. Its all down to you working out what your goal is

The sugar is not that bad in these as far as I know and that stuff is very effective, just stay consistant with it and lift

Edit: I assume your drinking these on full fat milk and not water ye, if your not ye probably should

    Hey colly,
I totally agree with you i would much prefer to get up to around 12 stone as i think it would look much better. A mix of mostly muscle and some fat is what im aiming for to add on 2 stone.
Gonna go hard for 8 weeks and see what results i get..Its going to be a shock to the system eating this much though.
Yeah i have started on these shakes with water tho, mixing with milk seems to make it very thick and its alot to drink...I think ill try to use it though.

    Thanks

Ye mixing with milk is a fair bit to take at the start but ye get used to it quickly, I use 1 and a half scoops in the blender mixed with 750 mls of milk.
Don't worry too much about getting fat, your metabolism is probably like mine and will probably burn stuff off easily regardless of what you eat and the muscle burns it off anyway

I wouldn't class cardio as such as being to bad for muscle gain, I box and play a bit of football and I don't feel im loosing much, I took up running before though and my chest shrank even though I worked harder (so I dont think running and muscle gain can be done together)

You will easily put on that 2 stone with a bit of work, just don't let yourself go hungery for any amount of time and lift, well worth it by the way, from your weight you'll noticibly change shape
